Simply put: guys with money tip. They like to "show it off".

If you have to ask, "should I tip?", you probably can't afford it to begin with.

Completely false..... I have know plenty of dudes that have a lot extra cash including myself that do not tip providers.

I tip when I get good service at restaurants and bars, because I know they only make about 2 or 3 bucks an hour. They work for tips......

This industry is a little different they set an hourly rate to make in one hour what most do not make in a day.

Guys that tip high to waitresses or providers are just purely thinking with the wrong head. Women are taught that from an early age that when a guys blood flow is directed at a different area of his body he becomes incoherent.

Tipping is a scam by restaurant owners to charge you 15% more than the prices listed on the menu.

Tipping is an equilibrium phenomenon in which wait staff earn $2.15 per hour and make a living wage by earning tips that, on average, put them at or above minimum wage. So if service was included in a restaurant bill you would indeed pay 15% more than the current listed price, so that waitstaff could earn at or above minimum wage. The present situation works because most customers tip a reasonable amount most of the time (i.e. when they get the expected good service). The present situation also allows customers to 'punish' bad service, something that most do rarely and reluctantly, but this serves to support an equilibrium where servers do work for the tip. The present situation also allows you to reward exceptional service. I don't see how any of this is a 'scam'. Owners could just as well raise prices 15%, say service is included, and you don't tip. The owners would then also have to pay the waitstaff more than $2.15 per hour, by law and more importantly, by economic reality. This is the way it works in much of Europe. Not sure why the owners would care, so no sure why it is a scam.

Other states where they actually pay the waitstaff minimum wage, I have found do not give that good of service at all.

In France, 15% is automatically added onto the bill in a restaurant. Don't like the service? Try to get your 15% back.

Used to be on cruises that you were given a list of "suggested" tips to the staff. Now you are charged x dollars per person each day of the cruise that goes to the staff. You can adjust that figure down at the end of your cruise but I sincerely doube anyone does.

Ouch! This almost sounds like a "Hooker Bashing" Thread. Whatever happened to, "Thank you lady for being open enough with your sexuality, and sharing a little of your love, life and time so that I may escape my reality/stress in daily life", I appreciate you". xoxo

...Tip, don't tip, it's really up to the patron. Period.

Here's a little bit of trivia regarding this topic:

The origin of the word English word "tip" is not clear. One popular theory says it's is an acronym of "to insure promptness." Jesse Sheidlower, Principal Editor in North America for the Oxford English Dictionary, says that's wrong, because acronyms weren't popular in English until the 1920s. "'Tip," says Sheidlower, "began as a verb in the seventeenth century, used in the language of thieves, meaning 'to give'." By the early eighteenth century, the meaning included "to give a gratuity to a servant or employee".

I've always leaned toward the former explanation, whether true or not, thus, IF that be the case, a tip should take place BEFORE service rendered, not after.
