In some states you must be over 18 or over 21 to purchase a hotel room. This is another reason. It is unheard of to check into a hotel without ID?

I stay in more hotels in Texas than I do in Oklahoma, and always have to show a DL up on check in. If I my card is beibg used, I hope they are checking ID.

Hey, I have underwear that is older than 18. They can card away a long as I get my points.

I tour all of the time and have always had to show an ID. Some hotels you have to be at least 25 to check in as well.

I travel a ton for business and personal, throughout Canada and the US plus some Europe. I cannot remember a hotel not asking for ID. I like that they do because then you know that everyone else in the hotel had to be verified as well.

Wow!...I'm almost as overwhelmed by the responses to this as I was when I met Amanda Taylor the first time! (I will never be that overwhelmed again. LOL)
I must be the only schlep on the face of the earth who isn't being ID checked. Walk up to desk..."Checking in, sir?"..."Yes" throw down Visa Black business card..."Thank you, Mr X, you're room is ready. Would you like your bag delivered to your room?"
No kidding...that's normal. No ID check. I know they're suppose to check ID, but they only did it the one time...and I thought it was strange.

It has varied for me. Some hotels in the St. Louis area have asked for ID and others have not. Even at the same hotel it has varied. I checked in multiple times without being asked for ID but the time before last I was there the clerk asked for it. It has also varied at the hotels I've stayed at in Illinois as well. I've stayed at 4 star hotels in downtown Chicago and have never been asked for my ID. In central and downstate hotels its probably been 50/50.

I've been asked for ID in all the hotels I've stayed at. Now, there's a couple who don't ask for it because they know who I am. I'm a big tipper for housekeeping, bartender and wait staff.

For those not being asked for identification, are you folks a member of the hotel's loyalty program?
