Sex in the Ancient World: Rome

Early Romans made up a society that lived by a strict code of honor and shame. They held piety and rationalism in the utmost regard, but accepted that violence and brutality were a regular part of life. However, despite the stoic exterior of this classic civilization, many contradictions were kept from view, including a system of widespread prostitution, sexual slavery, and a thriving sex trade that involved practically every layer of society.

The King held large feasts for the elite in his kingdom. Guests would often times bring baskets of Fruit, Dried Fish, Loafs of Bread, Herbs ect. To show his appreciation for his guests, the King would supply Concubines for his male guests and soldiers for female guests. In other words an Orgy would take place which was common place. We all have seen in movies depicting ancient Rome where the King held feasts and there would be young girls who would provide entertainment for the king and his guests in the form of Dancing. That would usually set the stage for what would later take place. Nudity and open sex. There was supposedly a concoction that was offered to the women guests that was made up of Goats milk, Herbs and spices and Honey. It was said to be a potent Aphradisiac.
