Inquring minds want to know.
companies dont just sit on their hands... as they wire up for implementation...plus some of the mandates have gone into affect...such as covering kids to age 26

Health expenditures in the United States neared $2.6 trillion in 2010, over ten times the $256 billion spent in 1980. [1] The rate of growth in recent years has slowed relative to the late 1990s and early 2000s, but is still expected to grow faster than national income over the foreseeable future.[2] Addressing this growing burden continues to be a major policy priority. Furthermore, the United States has been in a recession for much of the past decade, resulting in higher unemployment and lower incomes for many Americans. These conditions have put even more attention on health spending and affordability. [1]

Since 2001, employer-sponsored health coverage for family premiums have increased by 113%, placing increasing cost burdens on employers and workers. [3] In the public sector, Medicare covers the elderly and people with disabilities, and Medicaid provides coverage to low-income families. Enrollment has grown in Medicare with the aging of the baby boomers and in Medicaid due to the recession.[1], [4] This means that total government spending has increased considerably, straining federal and state budgets. In total, health spending accounted for 17.9% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2010. [5]

113% since 2001? Really?

Damn that Obama.

OBAMACARE HAS started already. Just ask the doctors who are being forced to implement new rules that are costing them money ... which in turn is being passed on to the patients. And according to community emails from my congressman, the benefits of Obamacare have already saved Americans millions in prescription drug copayments. So to those who think NOBamaCare hasn't started yet, think again!

The Insurance companies LOVE OBAMACARE...they wrote much of the law for him....the truth is that it is ineffective and wasteful BUT not the cause of rising healthcare premiums.

theres your list of whats gone into effect already

exactly why I posted the link ... the majority of which are cuts to social programs until 2013-14 ... and none of which are directly related to rising insurance costs.

unless of course Obamacare was in effect in 2001 ... that would explain the 113% increase to date.

better yet, since you insist certain portions of the legislation have had an immediate fiscal impact on HC's rising cost, be specific and point them out and offer the increase percentage since implementation ... be sure and figure any offsets social spending cuts have on the bottom line.

generalizations are moot IMO.

instead of being obstinate in the face of common sense just read the very first item on your link

2010
  • Federal officials authorized to review and investigate health insurance premium increases. This provision encroaches on state authority and imposes a costly burden on insurers.
Can you read the last phrase?

IMPOSES A COSTLY BURDEN ON INSURERS

or this one

Prohibits lifetime and annual benefit spending limits (plan years beginning 9/23/10). The result of limiting lifetime and annual benefits will be that private health insurance companies will be forced out of business

or this one

Requires plans to cover - at no charge to the policyholder - most preventive care (plan years beginning 9/23/10). As Michael Cannon at CATO explains, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Cannon writes here that the result of this government requirement will be higher premiums.

or these

Allows dependents to stay on parents’ policies through age 26 (plan years beginning 9/23/10).
Provides limited protections to children with pre-existing conditions (plan years beginning 9/23/10).

seems for something that hasnt gone into effect yet there sure are a lot of burdens

It cost Insurers to open their books and be examined ... Aw, aint that too bad.

But then why would anyone want to investigate a business sector that had a 113% increase in 9 years. Who cares if big Insurance companies are gouging their premium holders ? Give them subsidies at taxpayer expense just like Big Oil gets, and hope they too can post $12 billion dollar quarters.

Love, The GOP.

There are always those in the angry mob who will not listen to reasoned arguments.

They would rather sit wide eyed and agape while Michelle Bachman delivers a shrill denouncement of everything Obama has done or failed to do.

"Obama is the cause of high gas prices"

"Obama is responsible for the problems in the Middle East"

blah blah blah....

They never look at their own abysmal performance as legislators and their own culpability in the f@##$$ mess we find ourselves in.

Obama bad, Bush and Cheney good. Ogg need dino meat...roar....

You are absolutely right. That's probably how history will record his 'apology tour' and the subsequent 'Arab Spring'. He didn't support stable U.S. allies in that region, and he is partially responsible for their downfall and displacement - just like Carter allowed the fall of Iran.

Talk is cheap, being a president is a hard job, none of these critics would fare any better in the oval office. All this "I would've, should've" shit makes his opposers sound like a douchebag commenting about a fight after the match.

"If that was me- not saying that it would be- but if that was me, guy would have been on his ass in 10 seconds flat, would've pulled the ol' rope a dope and it would have been a KO."

No matter who is president or whatever party takes precedence everyone always quick to point out flaws while deep down knowing they wouldn't fare better themselves.
