Default A MESSAGE FROM DETROIT/CHRYSLER

IN A THREAD IN THIS FORUM ABOUT A JOBS REPORT THAT WAS JUST RELEASED, ONE OF THE COMMENTERS MAKES THE CLAIM THAT THE DIFFICULTIES DETROIT IS HAVING IS DUE TO "LIBERAL POLICIES", OF COURSE HE HAS NO PROOF OF THIS AND IT'S MERELY RHETORIC BASED ON NOTHING, BUT DETROIT AND CLINT EASTWOOD MUST OF HEARD HIM AND SENT HIM A MESSAGE:

Karl Rove was "offended" by the advertisement and said it's "a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics . . . using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising." I thought it was just an awesome commercial, and if I hear the phrase "Chicago politics" again, I'm going to hit someone. I guess it should be expected that the political talking heads would put their spin on things, if only to attach themselves to a current media moment, in hopes of staying relevant in a 24/7/365 news cycle. But I think it's also indicative of the growing discord in American politics where ideology trumps pragmatism, and being a moderate is viewed in a negative light. These guys aren't trying to change anyone's mind or explain their point of view to people on the fence. They're pandering to their base, who agree with them anyway, hoping to keep them in a furious lather until the next election. And then the next. In the meantime, government grinds to a halt, because divisive partisan politics win elections, but it's a shitty way to run a government.

One of things I think should be taken from this commercial is that Clint Eastwood is a dyed in the wool Republican/Libertarian, but despite his political leanings, he was rooting for Americans and American manufacturing power and that has to be purely American and not political.
What would have happened and what would we look like if we allowed 2 of the 3 only American automobiles to die. GM is now the largest in the world and has begun to pay us back and Chrysler has paid us back and is thriving.

There is absolutely nothing political in that commercial. Karl Rove needs to shut the fuck up and go away. He screwed this country enough in his 8 years of power.

But things are just going so well for GM! So much so dealers are refusing to accept allocations of the much vaunted Chevy Volt!

I've come to the conclusion that there is an entire segment of society that just hates this country and hides under the guise of patriotism.

These political/social terrorist are on a mission to destroy GM simply because a Democratic President helped to get GM back on it's feet.

A million jobs and many families would have lost so much if GM and Chrysler had failed but they fought back, along with help from our tax dollars and are now rated the worlds leader.

A great American icon, the baddest of the kick-ass genre himself a republican/libertarian, Clint Eastwood, comes to their defense and says the power of American manufacturing and the American people is unstoppable and that we have further to go and we have people that can't get behind that message.

The Chevy Volt has a long way to go. The range when running on the battery is dismal and there have been reports that these cars catch on fire. I would not be celebrating yet.

Yeah I get ya! The current administration bailed out GM and Chrysler and in doing so violated contract law and basically fucked over the secured bond holders in favor of the unions who voted them in. Great work there. Then are pushing a car that doesn't work and on top of that suppressed that information for several months in order to make what little sales they've had. (Yes check the NTSB reports)

I'd say the conservative patriots are really trying to fuck this country over! (in case you haven't noticed I'm saying this with a heavy dose of sarcasm!)

I'll tell ya' what rakhir, you can defend "The secured bond holders" (Big Banks, lenders, Wall Street) and you can wear that badge with pride all you want, I'm going with the majority; the American people…..

P.s. If you want to debate this issue with the lenders or GM, I'm game!

The problem with fucking over the big money guys (besides it being immorale and illegal) is that the next time there is any sniff of government interferrence they dont wait for the government to fuck them over, they call in the debt, crash the company and get whatever they can for it before the government tells them to pound sand. That sort of government intervention creates a reactionary response going forward that you really dont want from the people holding most of the money companies can borrow to do business.

You may have a problem with the money people thats fine. But when you break the law thats another thing! Stealing is stealing no matter how you slice it! These people put the money up for risk and deserved to be paid first.

What law are you speaking of rakhir? Has there been an investigation of any type? Where did you hear this?
