Default CONFRONT CORPORATE POWER-JOIN US!!

CONFRONT CORPORATE POWER
Taking our country back one corporation at a time.

Join Us

CONFRONT CORPORATE POWER: THE MOVEMENT OF THE 99%

Imagine workers and retirees, families fighting foreclosure and the unemployed, students, immigrants and environmentalists joining together to confront the corporate interests of the 1%…and winning.

Today we invite you to join the Movement of the 99% as we confront corporate power together, bringing communities all across the nation to fight for the long-term health and security of our families and the environment. Together, we will take on the abusive corporations—and the executives behind them—that crashed our economy, are subverting workers rights, perverting our democracy and destroying our environment.

Who are we?

We are those workers, families, students, and immigrants who have a vision of a country that can work for all of us.

We believe that there will be no economy or democracy that fully embodies values of community, cooperation, and equality without confronting—and reclaiming—the power that corporations have abused in their single minded drive for short-term profit.

We have the rare opportunity to create a powerful shift in our country. By coming together now across issue, class, race, gender, and geography we can mobilize hundreds of thousands to confront abusive corporate power, build a vision for a new economy, and reclaim our democracy in 2012 and beyond.

Starting now, we ask you to join us to expose, pressure, and challenge the companies most responsible for undermining our democracy, poisoning our environment and widening the gap between rich and poor. We are starting with some of the worst of the worst: Bank of America, Sallie Mae, Wal-Mart, Verizon and Wells Fargo. Our demands are precise and simple: corporations must pay their fair share of taxes, treat workers fairly, provide principal reduction to protect homeowners, pledge to keep money out of the election, and shift investments away from abusive private prisons and fossil fuels and into job creation and renewable energy.

This spring we are calling on people to flood the shareholder meetings of the most destructive corporations in the country. With your help, we will transform meetings usually reserved for discussion of corporate profits into a platform for us to demand that the benefits of doing business in this country be shared by all. And we won’t stop there.

By the time shareholder season is done, with your participation, we’re going to:

Train and mobilize tens of thousands of people;
Put thousands of people face-to-face with corporate decision makers at shareholder meetings;
And, make the imbalance of corporate power one of the top election issues.
Together, we can build a movement powerful enough to create a true democracy and a new economy that puts people first. It’s a “go big or go home” moment. And we say let’s go big together. There is a critical role for each and every one of you to play in this movement to take our country back, whether you are at home, in the streets or in the boardroom. You are invited. You are needed. Join us!

I do agree that corporations have lost it by focusing on short-term profits. They have become greedy and something needs to be done. And I do think the top 1% in the country run EVERYTHING. The old saying that if you work hard, you will be rewarded is not really true anymore. Now a big factor is how well you can play the corporate game. Thankfully some fields such as engineering and IT are still good. And don't give me this shit what stocks are owned by several people including the little people and that everyone who owns stock in a company have a voice. BS .. the only ones that have a voice are the stock holders that own the majority of the stock. And these are the same people that sit on the boards of each others companies and rape profits to pay their heafty bonuses and golden parachutes.

I do not agree that we will regain our democracy in 2012 and beyond. Wasn't that supposed to already have happened with the 2008 election? The only way it will happen in 2012 is if ALL policiticians are elected out of office and replaced with fresh thoughts. BUT WE ALSO NEED TO CHANGE THE RULES .... especially regarding lobbyists and special interest groups paying our politicians to vote their ways. This needs to be illegal. Of course, congress doesn't play by the same rules everyone else does. There was an article today regarding insider trading. Some in congress want to pass a rule that Congressmen cannot benefit from insider trading. Well excuse me, but isn't insider trading already illegal for the rest of us?

In my opinion, I think the whole country has become too polarized. We need to get back to the middle and common sense. Forget the far left and far right. Both of the far sides are nuts and cannot see the trees because of the forrest.

I lean right but thankfully not to the extreme that "limpballs" (yes, 1nemesis I agree with you on him) does. WE as a nation really need to start giving and taking on BOTH sides of the fence. In my opinion, I do not agree with the health care bill as it is written. I have been reading it and am very disappointed in the "got you's" that are in there. On the other hand, I do think there is a way to come up with a national health care bill that would benefit EVERYONE and not just the relatively small amount of americans that cannot afford healtcare, yet are expected to be provided for by those that pay taxes.

Another issue I have problems with is how everyone is lumped together in the foreclosure crisis. By that, I mean it seems like extreme liberals think everyone that is faceing foreclosure should be bailed out or not be held accountable for their actions. I'm sorry, but you must be an idiot to buy a house way over your income level (and I don't buy the excuse that lenders loosened eligibility requirements), sign a variable rate loan, then cry wolf when the interest rate rises and you cannot afford the payments due to the higher interest rates. That is their stupidity and I should not have to pay for it. Hell, I am stuck in a 6% APR fixed rate mortgage. Yes, I could refinance but thanks to the mess we are in, it is nearly impossible to refinance to get better rates.

Just my two cents worth.

There is not a whole lot I disagree with here but I will push back a little on 2 things.

"I do not agree that we will regain our democracy in 2012 and beyond. Wasn't that supposed to already have happened with the 2008 election?"

Let's try a macro-perspective on your statement and see if it still rings true:

1. We are a country of approx. 340 million people that requires a highly complex system of governing

2. Add a catastrophic economic collapse both here and in the Eurozone,

3.Bailouts of several banks and corporations,

4. 2 wars and a 3rd really with Lebanon and the war on drugs. Bin Laden dead, drone strikes into Pakistan, 22 top Al qaeda dead (more than the entire 8yrs of the Bush Administration (Warriors really?)

5. Diplomatic concerns- North Korea, Iran, Lebanon, Pakistan, Egypt, China, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia

6.Numerous national and global emergencies and natural disasters.

7. Healthcare overhaul- Affordable Care Act

8. Unprecedented obstructionism from the republican party in not allowing President Obama's appointees to even be considered and unprecedented number of filibusters in the Senate

9.2 SCOTUS fights that include Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor plus Citizens United

10. BP oil disaster.

Did you really expect a palatable change to incur in 1 term? This is just the beginning...

I've got more but I'll leave this for you to consider for now.

REALLY? He was just on CNN saying that was not what he meant! LOL!:

"Now, West is engaged in a rapid backpedal, appearing both on CNN and Fox this morning to insist that what he said is not actually what he said.

On CNN, West demanded that a skeptical host Soledad O’Brien view the entire speech an realize that “he was simply trying to draw attention to the decline of a country”
Later on Fox and Friends, West told host Steve Doocy, “I did not refer to any person leaving”:

WEST: The other thing is that I did not refer to any person leaving. If you go back and read the transcript of the message that I gave, it was about equality of achievement, it was about economic dependence, it was about enslaving the American entrepreneur’s will and spirit. That message needs to leave this country. And that was what I was referring to.

Private Pyle doesn't have the balls to defend what he said! Is he still one of your "favs"?!? LMAO!!

Which ones are you referring to and maybe I can offer a different perspective? Or just in general would be good too so I can get an idea...
