I think that I wrote this up on the previous board, but the discussion brought the memory back up to the front of my brain.
"...Summer of '78. We had finished up track and field, and weight training for football was a month off. We had our own business, toting bricks, mowing lawns, building fences, the usual B.S. for summer, but cash money. Other than putting half in the bank for college(parents rules), and fixing up a 68 El Camino for quarter mile, we had -Way- too much money for teen-age boys. One of our most profitable ventures resulted in the fact that the county was, "dry", or not subject to local sales of alcohol in any form. We had taken a discarded AF tanker bladder, cut if to fit the back of one of our cars, and resealed it to water tightness. We would make the 100+ mile round-trip to the nearest "wet" county, carefully stack the bed of the car with the stuff we liked, the stuff that we planned to sell, and then ice it all down and head back to town.

One of he places on the edge of town was a little hotel in the shape of a hacienda. You drove thru the entrance, and the "rooms" were around the central courtyard. My first was a slightly older woman (22) who went by, "Angela". Two 6-packs and $20 were the exchange. My spanish was all Tex-Mex, and she was from somewhere further South, so talk was mostly of the Braille variety. I still remember the unshielded lightbulb, the ocellating fan in the corner, and the salty sweetness of her cinnammon-colored skin.
