Holy crap! Can one make phone calls using the YM app? I have been using the Txt Free app as my hobby phone and that has been working well, but if I can text, IM, and call hobby contacts using yahoo... It would be a one stop shopping experience.

Sounds like y! is catching onto the g-voice trend. I know ym has offered the calling service for a few years now, but didn't think you got a dedicated number. Awesome on bringing another tool to keep our communications discreet

Yes YM does text, voice, video via email address and two YM smartphones or computers.

It will also retain a log of above said activities, address to address.

It has become my preferred communication tool, I just ensure that I default YM settings when not in use.

I used it for overseas wireless communications also, with Internet connectivity. No text or data, or voice rates were used.

I send an email to a yahoo account with a time/date of when I want to communicate, both parties ensure that YM is on and the correct ID is used, then meet and communicate.

Note - if you are logged into a single YM account over multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, computer, and the device is active and YM is active, you will establish a party line between all of your active devices and your distant end. This is bad if your other devices are within 'reach' of an unintended third party. Also plays hell on voice/video quality, not to mention community property assets.
