This is the heart of the problem. Liberals (progressives) view the constitution as an impediment to progress. I honestly believe that if it was put to a popular vote liberals would vote to abolish the constitution.

Liberals believe in creating a utopia by giving the federal government as much power as it needs to implement any program they come up with. The constitution is a constant problem for them since it limits federal authority to the enumerated powers. Most legitimate government power is held at the state level.

If the founding fathers came back from the dead, I think they would be outraged at the size and scope of the federal government. Most of the power currently wielded by the federal government is outside the constitution and is therefore illegitimate.

Impeachment is an empty threat when the Senate is filled with life long, professional politicians who just want to put on a good enough show to get re-elected and then go party together with the "opposition". Hell McCain would probably lead the defense of the one who bragged about "surrounding himself with communists" since McCain doesn't even think he's a socialist.

Now these guys are in office, and they haven't even had the requisite background checks! And Obama is strutting around bragging about how he is overruling Congress!
