I mean, I saw another pen they were offering and I know Cartier was expensive, but thought, heck, maybe I can own a Cartier pen. THAT one was $37,000. Egads, that's more than some folks' Mobile Homes! LOL

Hell No :-). I assume the one`s who do use it as a sort of investment, same as investing in art.

They have new ones every year and they never reproduce the same model. I see it as a family heirlume. I collect art and I view it as a piece of art to collect. Your loved ones would love to inherit that one day.

Default it is mightier

If I had that kind o cabbage roll sure.
Cartier makes some beautiful writing instruments.
53k is actually kind of mid range I've seen
some for 87k+. Platinum engraved barrel diamond
Encrusted with a sapphire cap.

My SO thought me nuts spending $450
on a rubberized Mont Blanc fountain pen.
Maybe so, it's an awesome pen.

I'm with Anaximander (???) - who cares what something costs if you can afford it? Great experiences are priceless and what our souls thrive on. Mine, anyhow.

That said, I've never been in the position to spend $53,000 on a pen. Even if I was, I don't think a pen would be that meaningful to me. But if it is to someone and they can do it, go for it!

It does bring an interesting question to mind though - what would you buy if you had a spare $53,000 or so knocking around?

Myself? Gosh, too many choices spring to mind. It'd take a while to sort them out. Antiquities and designer knick knacks wouldn't be among them. Shoes, maybe.... I don't know why shoes can be so sexy, but they are.

I bet it looks great and writes like shit. I would never spend that kind of cash for a pen when some douchebag is just going to walk away with it.

My Mont Blanc doesn't write-it flows.
It is nice, your loss...or $$ gain if thats what matters.
