Heavens... a visit to Memphis and no barbecue?
The Bar-B-Q Shop on Madison is my favorite, though Central BBQ on Central (duh!
) or on Summer Ave. is also beyond reproach, IMHO.
I think Neely's and Corky's are overrated, myself, but in fairness to Corky's I've only had their food catered at workplace luncheons; for all I know the food they serve fresh in the restaurant may be very good.
ETA: Just reread Dallas's post and just noticed her recommendation of Germantown Commissary (damn caffeine just doesn't kick in like it used to). Never been there yet, myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about the place. They'll have a huge hurdle to leap to pass up The Bar-B-Q Shop in my estimation. FWIW, the staff of
The Memphis Flyer (the local alternative fishwrap) did pick The Bar-B-Q Shop as the best in Memphis for both ribs and BBQ not too long ago.
Enjoy the visit!
Cheers,
