Wow, that is more scary than a "COG for President" movement!

When I get pulled over I usually hide my phone anyway. Paranoid already!

You can say no. If you are not under arrest, they have to have a warrant. Period.

Default COG in 2012!!

When I am elected President, there will be no cell phone checking at traffic stops, and all escorts will be able to pay their taxes in trade. God Bless America!

I have just joined the "COG for President" movement, and in return for my endorsement I want to be appointed as your chief tax collector.

How do you say "no" to something that you don't know is happening? FWIW, while I support all of the talk and websites and videos on how to deal with law enforcement and protecting your rights wholeheartedly just be aware that if you DO actively participate in these things you're very liable to end up in jail, at least for a while, and possibly get your ass stomped.

Never underestimate the power of a)authority figure with a deadly weapon + b)adrenaline + c)superior attitude. These things together can make a normally nice guy/gal an animal if you piss them off.

They do have to take your phone and plug it into a reader device. So they should have to ask for your permission to do that.

This is just another good reason to use Google Voice. All of your calls go to one number which is then routed to the correct phone number. Your call logs will just show a hundred calls to the same phone number.

On the other hand, the police aren't going to expect you to have a second pay-as-you-go phone on a routine traffic stop, so that would seem to offer protection as well. As long as they don't search your car or anything -- but why would they on a simple traffic stop?

No, they don't. It can connect through bluetooth with and supposedly bypass the normal pairing sequence. That's my understanding of the system.

A good reason to have bluetooth and gps off whenever you're not using them (which you should be doing anyway).

I would be extremely surprised if they could do that. The devices I have seen all connect through the Micro USB port. I don't know how they could bypass the pairing. But as you say you just need to turn off your Bluetooth and it can't connect. I always keep Bluetooth off, since it drains the battery so much, but I guess if you were paired to your car while driving and you forgot to turn it off AND this hack was possible without pairing, then it could work.

Between us, EZ, we should greatly increase tax, uh, deposits.
