Default Please list/mention Obama's Accomplishments

For those who support President Obama ( the Congress/Senate aside), ' pretend they don't exist' for this thread and focus strictly on Obama. He is ( like him or hate him) our President, the Commander in Chief, the one who lives on PA Ave. and is the leader of the free world.

Please try to only mention what Obama has done, accomplished, both nationally and internationally on his own, 100% his work, his ideas and thinking from start to finish. Fresh ideas he has presented that have worked. How is the average American doing now compared to the day the moving trucks left the Windy City, overstuffed Manny's Pastrami sandwiches and Al's Italian Beefs behind. Or anything else you can think of that Obama has done to improve life for John and Jane Doe on Main Street, U.S.A. and for the country as a whole.

If possible, let's focus entirely on the current President and attempt to leave the following words or phrases out of replies.

* Democrats
* Republicans
* Harry Reid
* Nancy Pelosi
* John Boehner
* George Bush
* ' inherited'

* ' prior mess'

Instituted an overpriced health care system that will bankrupt the U.S.
Bailed out the car manufacturers so they can make even more exorbitant profits and build more gas guzzlers.
Increased the national debt 16 times more than any previous Administration.
Gave the gay rights movement a huge boost by repealing the military ban.
Appointed the first absolutely silent Latina to the Supreme Court.
Gotten a full head of gray hair.

Now I'm no politician, so I don't have the knowledge of what was in legislation prior to or who was really wielding the pen for this, but under the Obama administration there have been leaps and bounds made in the financial industry as it relates to how creditors and debt collectors can go after those in debt and all the information that has to be revealed to a consumer in plain english prior to giving them credit.

He opened the door to make healthcare affordable for all.

He repealed the 'don't ask, don't tell' act in the military.

Implemented major changes in the student loan programs and made it illegal for creditors to entice students under the age of 21 to apply for credit without educating themselves properly. He enacted largest reform of student aid in 40 years.,

Extended unemployment insurance benefits and temporarily suspend taxes on these benefits.

just a few that I know. I dont follow politics, but those laws just so happened to affect me personally.

wipes his ass.

he can't enact any policy law or idea 100% by himself, that's just silly to think he or any president can or does without some meeting or counsel. y'all give him too much credit.

but... here's the promises he's kept(with help)

Extend child tax credits and marriage-penalty fixes
Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to invest in peer-reviewed manufacturing processes
Increase minority access to capital
Require economic justification for tax changes
Implement "Women Owned Business" contracting program
Change standards for determining broadband access
Establish a credit card bill of rights
Expand loan programs for small businesses
Extend the Bush tax cuts for lower incomes
Extend and index the 2007 Alternative Minimum Tax patch
Close the "doughnut hole" in Medicare prescription drug plan
Expand the Senior Corps volunteer program
Require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions
Give tax credits to those who need help to pay health premiums
Require large employers to contribute to a national health plan
Require children to have health insurance coverage
Expand eligibility for Medicaid
Expand eligibility for State Children's Health Insurance Fund (SCHIP)
Require health plans to disclose how much of the premium goes to patient care
Establish an independent health institute to provide accurate and objective information

Well, nice list except for one thing. Several of the things you accredit to Obama were done only with pressure from the House for him to do so. As in, extending the Bush tax cuts, extending child tax credits, these were not his ideas, he was forced into doing so by the House.
As far as the Health Care plan. As Sixxbach and others mentioned, please tell me how many people saw a reduction in their health premiums?
Mine went up, Sixx's went up and it did so for every single person that I know.
I had a pre-existing condition. Want to know what the insurance company told me last week? That's only for children at this point. It won't kick in for the Adults until 2014.
Let's look at the Credit Card reform bill.
How many people's APR actually went down? Let me tell you what it did for me. EVERY SINGLE COMPANY contacted me and told me my APR would go up. EVERY ONE. I spent almost 2 weeks on the phone with various companies, arguing, threatening to close my accounts etc before I got most of them to back off on raising my APR. My business card was slashed almost in HALF as far as available credit. Overnight. You know what they told me? We reserve the right to review accounts periodically and make adjustments. Let's see, my credit rating is excellent, I've never missed or been a day late on the payment, I had the same business card for 7 years and as soon as the Consumer Bill was passed my available credit limit was slashed by over $10,000. Last time I used my BOA business card.
So tell me please, with Credit Card % rates going UP, Credit lines being reduced, health premiums going UP, how exactly did I benefit from these Obama "accomplishments"? Oh and of course, let's not forget my Property value dropping $20,000+ and the wonderful hit my 401 K is about to take next week. Yep, he's done mighty fine, Obama has!

Exoticentyce, I'm curious. Have you served in the military. If it's too personal you don't need to answer. I'm simply wondering if you feel that repealing the military's ban on open Gays serving is based on personal experience while serving in the military. From my personal experience and viewpoint, it's detrimental to our military. There's a telling statistic. When the military was polled on how they felt about repealing "don't ask, don't tell" there was a stark contrast between the responses that came from "Combat Arms" units vs. "Support" units. Combat arms units were consistently opposed, sometimes as high as 80% against, depending on the specific unit. Support units were in majority favor of doing away with the ban. Having served, I know for a fact that there was a much larger percentage of gays already serving in Support units than in Combat Arms units when this poll was taken. Now let's look at where morale is most critical. Would you consider morale to be more of an immediate issue with the people carrying out the actual fighting, or with the support personnel at the rear bases?
Between increasing obesity of our military, (walked around a U.S. military base lately and counted the number of grossly overweight soldiers?), the repealing of the "don't ask, don't tell", the ridiculous Rules of Engagement our Military operates under and the complete lack of a coherent vision from our current politicians on how to effectively wage war, our military is in a decline. The military should not be a social experiment. It's here for two purposes. As a deterrent to potential foes and to defeat any enemies once war begins. Period. Anything that's done which weakens this capability will be to the detriment of our nation.

This is a lot to accomplish in such a short amount of time. He was elected President, he wasn’t elected Jesus.

As far as MY health plan goes....I CANNOT GET ONE! I have been denied health insurance by 19 health insurance companies because of a pre-exisiting thyroid condition. (Which is a very common diagnosis throughout the nation).
I make too much money to qualify for Medicaid. Not that I would want Medicaid. I would much rather contribute to my own care. It's not that I can't afford insurance. I would love to pay for health insurance. I DREAM about having health care. And there are millions of Americans in my same situation. We have the money to pay for insurance but no one will let us have it.
Don't you understand that if people in my situation (36% of Americans with pre-existing conditions who cannot get health care) contributed to health care we would not even have a health care crises? I'm tired of hearing people complaining about their health care costs going up. Just be thankful you have it.

Care to perhaps explain what exactly does one thing have to do with the other? Most of the provisions won't even go in to affect until 2014 and health insurers are currently enjoying record profits. There's no rational reason they should be raising the cost of your plan. CBO did an analysis as to costs of healthcare under PPACA:

http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/107xx/doc...0-Premiums.pdf

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/14/bu.../14health.html

You can thank your greedy insurance provider for the increases. It has absolutely nothing to do with the PPACA, at least not yet.

Well said Kimberly, and Saul that has jack shit to do with obamacare and 100% to do with corporate accountant america.

I used to work for HP, 300k employees so you might think the group benefits should be pretty good, you would think. coverage went from 90% to 80% and copays went up and up. Obamacares fault? nope, accountants fault because they would rather risk me leaving and increase savings and profits.

same time they are posting billions in profits but my bonus shrinks, my yearly increase on hold, while executives get paid millions and Mark hurd jumped out with his golden parachute.

Now i am a contractor, with a small national company. and hmmm my benefits are better at 90% coverage and smaller copays.

Obama has zero nada zilch to do with runaway corporate america that are like chinese acrobats jumping through the loopholes of the tax system while the rest of us file our 1040's and .. thankfully squirrel away enough cash to bang hot chicks HERE.

I would think that oppression of anyone based on sexual preference would be a far bigger detriment to our supposedly free and tolerant nation. Kind of makes the military a mute point as a supposed "protector of freedom" around the world. What exactly is the point if we are unable to provide those freedoms to our own civilian population?
