Debt Ceiling Irrelevant
These guys are right. The Constitution makes the debt ceiling debate irrelevant. If Congress wants to stop spending, then they need to start earning their pay and make some hard choices. Or continue to spend us into oblivion. Either way, they can't rely on an arbitrary debt ceiling to save their ass.

The Constitution is very specific; the Congress is responsible for spending and not the executive branch. The Congress can raise taxes (or lower), create tariffs (or cancel), establish programs requested by the executive branch (or not) but only the C.ongress can spend the money. Any money spent by the executive branch comes from monies authorized by Congress. The argument that the 14th amendment circumvents Article 1, section 8 has been shown to be a parody of the understanding of the Constitution.

I don't know if there is any "controlling legal authority" which shows my reading of the 14th Amendment is in error. This will likely be the first case concerning that clause. However, we are discussing monies already committed by Congress. If they have changed their mind about following through (and I hope they do), then they need to enact appropriate legislation.

Not so fast!
First, I think now would be a good time for you to invest in gold.
Second, "Yosemite National Park presented by Doritos" has a nice ring to it.
Third, Obama can just print money and blame the Republicans all the way until election day. I'm sure people will get pissed that they have to pay higher interest rates with smaller dollars.
