That's about where it ends.....as far as being "just like everyone else."

Within the past several months one of "our" local U.S. Reps (who isn't qualified to take out the trash) tried to get a server at Bush fired because the Rep's food was not served to the local Rep "as fast as the Rep thought it should be" ... it wasn't long ago that the same Rep tried to get a Capitol police officer fired for asking her for her ID before entering the secure area of the building.

The "local Rep" about whom I "speak" is not "unusual" for people "we hire" to represent US!

Now ... try to get in touch with one of your "local Reps" by phone ... and see how "human" they are.

When voters and taxpayers (not always one and the same) realize that the people who are voted into office and the people hired by them to work in government jobs .... are PUBLIC SERVANTS ... which means ...

.....they serve the voters and taxpayers not the other way around ....

.... this country will be a better run, more efficient, balanced budget, lower taxed, and more prosperous and enjoyable place to live.

Personally, I don't want our elected "officials" to be showing off their cocks on the internet or getting them sucked in the closet in the "oral office" OF OUR HOUSE ........ nor do I want them to get drunk and drive innocent "groupies" off bridges and leave them to drown with IMPUNITY.

Was it stupid what he did? yes, especially knowing what will happen to him politically, he has much to lose. Does this mean he will lie about other things to the public? Not necessarily, but hell what politician hasn't lied to the public about something? We are making to big a deal over this whole thing IMHO
Weiner is a lying sack of S**T, who doesn't deserve to hold public office. Unfortunately, he has plenty of company in Congress, and the rest of the government. It may be christian to forgive, but it is stupid to re-elect these idiots.

Problem is: If candidates are truthful, the voters send them packing.

Why did Arnold keep his secret for so long? If you say his wife, you don't give her enough credit.

And I am not giving any of them a pass for lying. If he lies about sending inappropriate photos, he will lie about voting on inappropriate legislation.

Yes, I know they are human and may potentially engage in lewd behavior, but that's beside the point. These types of issues go back centuries, and they are prohibited on behalf of elected officials because of the potential for blackmail. Back during the Cold War, the Soviets were masters at this technique. They would recruit a smoking hot woman to act as an undercover agent, have her get friendly with an elected official or high ranking military officer, then attempt to pump him for highly classified information. If the guy doesn't cooperate, she threatens to go public with his indiscretions (including embarrassing him and his family). More than one guy would cave, and give her information that was detrimental to national interests, causing harm to the general public. And if he/she is so devoid of character, then how can they possibly be trusted to handle critical issues? The answer is, they can't. That's why this clown has to go.
Ok I will run with this..

You are speaking about moral turpitude which is based on conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals. These morals are by and large based on a community and generally set by the main religious majority in this country. In addition as the years go by this changes as the general public becomes more accepting of things (like sexually orientation) and more abhorrent of others. I do not condone Weiner's lying, nor do I condone him sending out sexually offensive material to anyone who did not ask for it. However, my point is that in this moral turpitude that you bring up does include conduct that is sexually based. I believe that we as a country need to stop with the religious mores and laws based on them concerning such matters. Maybe if we didn't make an issue out of a man being gay, or a man seeing a prostitute in public office, etc.. then there wouldn't be blackmail material in the first place for elected officials. Again I am not supporting Weiner, and think he utterly fails at just using common sense and good judgement. That to me is more of a concern than him sending sexually explicit material back and forth to women who are willing, and participating with him. Yes, the lying was stupid, and he made other people look stupid by carrying on like this and not just admitting it. But again my point is, if we as a society didn't make such things an issue, he may not have felt the need to lie in the first place.

There is a tribe of Indians that reside in the area of Tepic, Mexico, who are truly "communal" in so far as property is concerned. They do not believe in "ownership" of property. Since they do not have any principle's of property "ownership" ... there, by definition, can be no theft of property .. no stealing. If they want a chicken in your yard, then can simply pick it up, take it home, and cook it for dinner. No harm, no foul. (No pun) It didn't belong to you anyway ....

.... what's my point?

.... "if we as a society didn't make such things an issue," there would be no "need to lie in the first place" about stealing your chicken.

Blaming the "moral majority" for Weiner's demise is not giving him the healing and redeeming experience of penance for his indiscretions.

As a U.S. Representative he is tasked with determining what laws the rest of our society must endure, and a minority of people do that to the majority. Why shouldn't the majority upon whom he assists in imposing his views and principles, impose theirs upon him?

How did he vote for "Obamacare"? He crammed that down the throats of a majority of the people in our society. Karma is a bitch.

Ok so you quoted just the very last sentence of my entire post, and it makes it look like I am saying we should be accepting of lying.. that is not what my post is saying. Re-read it again. Stealing and killing are not even comparable to consensual sex, sexual behavior, sexual orientation. You are comparing apples to oranges in your tribe analogy. I could care less if Weiner or any other elected official sends sexual images of themselves to willing participants, or even receives such material from others (adult, consensual, material only). I think too much emphasis is placed on sex, and sexual behavior of adults with this regard. It is so very taboo that people feel compelled to lie about it when confronted. That was my point. I think sex is part of who we are as human beings, sex is apart of the male and female dance, and I think society needs to be more accepting of it, and of our body parts. God forbid if we saw a female elected officials boobs or vagina.

Anyway, I guess only some will see what I am trying to say. You seem more stuck on the fact that it was this guy Wiener and the fact that you hate his politics. That is not what my posts are about. I am not supporting or condoning what Weiner did in any way with regard to sending pictures to unwilling/unsuspecting people, and then lying about it.

Fortunately, most of the people in the U.S. do care, and apparently, so does Nancy, et al, on "his politics" side of the chambers. Did you see the Democractic Senate Majority Leader ... turn his back?

Unfortunately for some "public servants" many taxpayers frown on "public servants" using time and equipment paid by the taxpayers to "recreate" and engage in "personal" behavior.

Back when Bill was struggling about whether or not he really had "sex" with that woman, and trying to figure out what "is" means ... folks took the discussion to the level (you decide whether it is up or down) of tossing out ... what's wrong with a blow job.... etc., etc.

That was a good, although ineffective, way to deflect the attention to the persons complaining about his BEHAVIOR, which included LYING.

Thank God that a female, yes female, Federal Judge saw through the blowjobs Bill was getting and focused on the LYING, when she recommended to the Arkansas Bar Association to jerk his ticket, which it did for LYING ............ not the blowjob.

When Weiner finally gets "RETIRED" he can send all the crotch shots he wants as far as I am concerned, and lie all he wants about it. But so long as he is a U.S. Representative, no matter the flavor, he needs to answer for his BEHAVIOR, which includes LYING.

As for "hate" ... I don't. Period. And demonizing me is also ineffective.

Yes, I agree, and that should not just include sexual behavior but any other type of personal behavior. Your still missing what I am saying.

I wasn't demonizing you, I assumed by your very "strong" posts about what he has done in office prior to this whole "weinie" event that you hate his politics. So I stand corrected. I am not trying to offend you Lexus. Just debating about America's "sexual repression" and aversion to things sexual.

Weiner's sexual indiscretions have nothing to do with the fact that I consider him to be an asshole. I am offended by the fact that he, and so many of his colleagues, feel that they have the right to lie to, and impose their will upon the American people. Stupid is as stupid does.

If not fucking on the sidewalks around the elmentary school during the day while school is in session is ...

... "sexual repression" and "aversion to things sexual" ... then I would say:

Guilty.

Like I said: Attempting to redirect the reality of Weiner to some "social-political" agenda is avoiding the direct issue involved.

Lying about "extracurricular" personal activities in which he is engaged on the taxpayers' clock....IS THE ISSUE ... as far as I am concerned.

If Weiner has enough time on his hands (pun intended) to post his weenie on the internet along with his naked half-body pictures, then I can see some areas where budget cuts should begin. It doesn't have a damn thing to do with "sexual repression" and "aversion to things sexual" ... it has to do with a lying, wasteful excuse for a U.S. Rep. who tells me I can't use government equipment for personal things, but HE CAN!

Just working on a "working definition" of ...

... "sexual repression" and "aversion to things sexual" ...

The U.S. is so "sexual repressed" that guys from all over the world flock here to "play" with the "hot babes" from "America" that are ...

...... "sexual repression" and have "aversion to things sexual" ...

Weiner is not about ... "sexual repression" and "aversion to things sexual" ... he is about sleazey behavior ... and he even looks the part.

The Anthony Weiner-Mark Foley connection.
Mark Foley (R-FL) had to resign back in 2006, after having sent lewd emails to male pages. But before his fall, Foley was an ardent foe of sex predators. Here he is giving a brief speech about how much he detests them, and how we must do something. I used to think the cry of "do something" was code for "we're taking another of your freedoms." But maybe sometimes it means "the problem I want to do something about is me."

It turns out that like Foley, Anthony Weiner (D-NY) also had the do-something bug regarding sex predators. Weiner was especially focused on internet sex predators. On his web site, he brags about having helped to pass in 2007 the 'KIDS' act ("Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sex predators").

From his site:
"The "Kids Act' implemented one of my six recommendations to keep a closer eye on sex offenders both near school grounds and online. I also proposed stricter GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher enforcement of registration laws and more public disclosure of sex offender data.
Sadly, the Internet is the predator's venue of choice today. We need to update our strategies and our laws to stop these offenders who are a mere click away from our children."

Of course we have to combat child molestors. Lock 'em up and throw away the key is my answer. Building more bureaucracy and registering more sex offenders is not the solution. Anyway just remember the next time a congress critter is bloviating just a little too loudly on this topic. It just might be yet another case of a congressman who 'doth protest too much.'

------------------

Here is a corny joke....ex-congressman Mark Foley heard about a liberal hack congressman from NY sex-ting young women. He replied, "Why didn't I think of that?"
