Apple iPhone wins in the hobby phone wars. The hobby just got a lot easier.

Boost has a variety of phones, from candy bar to android to blackberry phones, the rates are $50 for a regular and android phone to $60 for blackberry phones. The rates are for unlimited EVERYTHING, calls to any other phone, text messages and internet access. If you don't pay your bill on time, they don't keep racking up fees. They just shut it off. Pay the bill, its back on. And NO contract = no paper trail. Other companies, like AT&T, leave a paper trail, in and out going calls, text messages, etc. As far as dropped calls, I've had dropped calls in certain areas with other cell phone providers, a dead zone is a dead zone. IMO, its the best deal going.

Don't get a smart phone with a contract!! Get a cheap, monthly, throw away that doesn't even require your real name.

Whats the point in having a seperate phone for this hobby? If it's to elude wives or girl friends, I guess I can see that, but to elude LE. How can they dispute that you dialed a wrong number. I don't except textes from providers unless Iam really sure it's her.

acp, there was a thread recently about a new device that are being used by LE, one department is testing them out, that can plug into a cell phone and download every piece of information on it. The same could be done with a 'hobby' phone, however it would hurt a lot less to toss a cheap prepaid phone than a $400 one!

Sounds like that would be unconstitutional being that the info on my cellphone isn't public record.

software is available to hack all the smartphones remotely, and all phones have a built-in GPS mandated for 911 calls, so your location is available. now ... realistically, is anyone other than an SO really that inclined to hunt down providers and hobbyists ??

i don't think so. it does bother me on the other hand when i read a review of someone who is traveling and openly doing drugs ... the LE actively hunt that crime - it's a moneymaker.
