Default Rockets Coach Adelman Fired

Evidently he didn't get along with the GM and they decided to part ways.

I'm disappointed with the move. From what I could tell, Rick was getting the most out of his talent and it wasn't his fault Yao was hurt. Honestly I think it was fairly predictable that Yao wasn't going to be a viable franchise player 3 years ago when the Rockets went on the 22 win streak without him. Morey should have pulled the trigger on a trade, waiver or buy out of Yao's contract.

what sucks is that he was not removed because of his coaching ability, but a personal squab between two grown men. Who likes all of their coworkers or employees? the point is to get the job done. i totally agree with Sean Mitchell of Y! Sports:

"All things considered, Adelman did lots with a little, at least when all the injuries were totaled in. Dealing with constant roster turnover and injuries to the teams superstars, Adelman produced four winning seasons, two 50 win seasons and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1997."

On another note, it was to be predictable that Yao would be more injury prone because his height is actually a genetic disorder that has more health disadvantages than a little bit. Fragile bones, joint deformities, and bone infections are inevitable. As are eventual vascular difficulties. IMHO, he hasn't brought enough to the game to justify his salary or even his drafting. The only one winning on this one is Yao's bank account.

I was very unhappy with the loss of Adelman- but I don't feel bad for him, he's going to have at LEAST 5 teams doing everything they can to get him. Adelman is a stellar coach with a stellar record that can't seem to keep a long-term job...Kind of weird, but now I'm just wondering where the team goes next.

Big Rockets fan, Yao was worth the initial contract and half of his extension. They really should have re-thought it when China refused to let him rest for the Summer. They would keep running him out there. So when a 7'6", 350 lb giant gets 2 weeks of rest a year from BASKETBALL, yeah, he's going to get worked to the breaking point.

I am very curious as to who we'll pick up to coach next...maybe a college coach? I don't know...Could be some dark times for Goran Dragic and crew next season. Go Goran!

you've got to be kidding. 5 injury plagued years and he didn't even play any of the 09-10 season. true his first couple of seasons he was one of the best centers in the game, but it was not a shock that he wasn't going to be healthy. not worth the risk imo. stacked up against Nene, Camby, Al Jefferson (who is incredible), Lopez, Kaman of the Clippers, Gasol, and D. Howard, Yao's career now is nothing short of anti climactic. they should either trade him if anyone wants him, or buy out his contract and send him on his way.

there's a dozen teams in the league better than the Rockets, and it'll be alot easier for him to find a better team to coach for than it will be for the Rockets to find a better coach. I think he's too outspoken sometimes and has a very strong personality that makes it hard for him to stay in everyone's good graces long enough to have a long term run with any team.I thought it was funny when Phil Jackson compared him to Hitler. he just demands excellence. the man is 64 years old, too damn old to be coaching a second or third rate cast anyways. he needs a winning team; hopefully the lakers at least consider him before taking Shaw.

Awesome coach who ended up having shitty "superstars" Tracy and Yao. At least the management pulled a trigger on McGrady. But sad to say that all Yao can bring is votes to all-star game. If he cant play then he SUCKS. Its like an ugly chick with nice tits....nobody cares.

Yao was a bad investment. Hopefully they use the draft to come up with some better talent

Yao was a good investment, dollar wise. Yao brought the Rockets into the China market. Merchandising alone he was a good investment. As an injury prone player, not so much . . .
