twitter and facebook
just curious...
I'm not huge on the social media stuff but I do think it's neat and has potential to be entertaining.
Does anyone here use facebook or twitter for the hobby? It might be neat to follow a provider on twitter or see what people are up to on facebook.
I personally don't like facebook because so many people can see every little thing you are up to (it'd be extra important to keep hobby vs. personal info seperate), but some providers might be able to use it to their advantage? Anyone?

I have heard of some who do, but I think its a bad idea. The purpose is to be discreet, couldn't less discreet than those 2 sites! My .02

Yeah, I was thinking more about twitter. I could see a tweet to your hobby phone letting everyone know that someone had an appointment time that just came available or what the rest of the day/week is like.
Facebook is too much "up in your business" and even if someone had hobby vs personal profiles, I can see facebook hijacking everything and putting it online - don't like that at all.
I was reading an article about facebook and it was saying that escorts were using it but frankly I didn't see how/why they could use it. Also I get freind requests from young pretty girls I don't know and, even though I assume they are hackers, I always wonder in the back of my mind if they are providers. probably not.

I used to get stuff like that on myspace...... some really good looking dude from some far off country! Ain't no different than those email scams about sending you a check from third world country for a gazillion dollars! Yeah right, where do I sign??? LOL. I also have a facebook page in my RL, but I never get on there. Heck, I have logged in to myspace in ages!

There are a lot of providers on FB, some advertising what they do and some personal like Dallas. A study found it becoming popular for providers to use FB. You can set your self to private but I still don't trust it, and don't forget all your non hobby friends can read what write and who you are your friends.
Maybe we should start are own version of it and make a fortune like Zuckerburg, what that be sweet.

you will never see me using facebook as a means of communicating about hobby as it is DEF family and friends since gradeschool. i hate when people try to contact and friend request through there if i have not personally befriended them myself

Mixing FB with the Hobby is a NIGHTMARE!!!!
Personal experience says NO! NO! NO!
I had a "real-life" friend on FB that happened to introduce me to this hobby....she later used it against me and caused a mountain of hell!
She and her antics are no longer an issue as my personal life changed so dramatically (because of her)...but unbelievably for the better, HAHAHAHA!
Not everyone can get that lucky though!
My advice...
Do not mix this hobby with FB / Twitter / MySpace or any other type of non-hobby social network. Even accidental mixing can create DRAMA!
