Default Fuck me Ray Bradbury

I found this song about six months ago and ran into it again today as I was updating my site. Yes, I love it so much that I've linked it. If Brittney Spears sang more about fucking awesome writers the way this chick does.... Let's just say I'd pay way more attention to her.

The best part of the story is that someone sent a link to this video to Ray Bradbury himself and the report is that he *loved* it. Of course, who wouldn't be flattered that such a hot nerd chick is singing about jumping your bones solely because of your literary talents?

Completely fun. I didn't realize Ray Bradbury was still alive!

He is.

Oh yes, I guess it would have helped if I had mentioned that someone brought this video to his attention only a few months ago. There's actually a link of him viewing it here.

Dear hot (amen) nerd (athletic would be my adjective of choice) chick (and how), I am more of a Kurt Vonnegut fan but if this post puts you on top of me then i like Ray Bradbury too.

RB (that's what all his friends call him) rocks.

Okay, that's what I've read they do.

Okay, I'm lying about that, too, but he still rocks.

@JesseJames, If you look at the end the girl singing slaps another girl who is wearing an "I love Kurt Vonnegut" t-shirt so it's pretty awesome that you mentioned it. Unless you watched it and are referencing the video. Either way, Vonnegut is fantastic.

By the way, you rock too!

@OldTimeBuddie, I just call him amazing.

And actually, I forgot to mention. I just finished up some new photo sets, among which are a whole set of nerd/book lover images. They'll be popping up on my site over the new few days as I get them resized.

Ray's good but he's neither the best nor the most published. that honor goes to Issac Asimov who published both science fiction and many educational texts, given that he was also a teaching Professor at Boston College. Sci-fi i know well, the history of which i'll describe for y'all ...

The Godfather of Sci-fi - Jules Verne
The Prodigal Son - H.G. Wells
The Big 3 of the golden Era - Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Robert A. Heinlein

Isaac Asimov is widely considered a master of hard science fiction and, along with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke, he was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers during his lifetime.[

other notables include RB, Eric Frank Russell, A. E. van Vogt, Hal Clement, ah well why not post the "list" ...

Prominent Golden Age authors

Beginning in the late 1930s, a number of highly influential science fiction authors began to emerge, including:Yeah RB's on the list and deservedly so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_...cience_Fiction

"The Illustrated Man" and "Fahrenheit 69 .. er 451" are good but i wouldn't put RB any better than lower top ten of TWK's all-time list of great Sci-fi.

1) Childhood's End - Arthur C. Clarke
2) Nova - Samuel R. Delany
3) I, Robot - Issac Asimov
4) Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein
5) The Illustrated Man - RB
6) Men, Martians and Machines - Eric Frank Russell
7) Iceworld - Hal Clement
8) Starship - Poul Anderson
9) Blue Adept - Piers Anthony
10) Gateway - Frederik Pohl

no repeats allowed! only one per author boys n' girls!

Are we only applauding science fiction writers here? Can we add William Gibson's Neuromancer to the list? What about Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game?

I love Piers Anthony but I have a hard time taking him seriously... maybe it's all the puns in his Xanth novels? His work is like popcorn, it's wonderful but a steady diet of it would be unbearable. The good guys are always too good and even his villains are just misunderstood, his characters lack the depth of those in Martin's novels but then again, that is setting the bar pretty high.

Are we adding fantasy writers into the mix? Because if so it just wouldn't be a complete list without George R.R. Martin, J.V Jones, Robin Hobb and Patrick Rothfuss.

Many thanks to TWC- not to disparage the Golden Age- I have read all 10 above + many more.
Greatest novel of all time (and series)- Frank Herbert -
"Dune". Nebula award in 1965 and best seller of all time.
A classic of imagination to create a desert world, culture, and place it interplanetary/galactic center of life and politics. A truly amazing creation that took six years to write. Rejected by over 20 publishers before publication.

If nothing else- " I must not fear. Fear is the Mind-Killer. ....." Bene Gesserit Litany against Fear.

And for Wynterstark- two classics. William Gibson is not for the faint of heart.
Kudos to the Lady

well said, i decided to list mine by the Golden Era only, otherwise Card would definitely rate with his "The Memory of Earth" series. Haven't read "Ender's Game" so i can't speak on it, it's now out as a comic by Marvel, maybe i'll read it as the "Cliff's Notes" version LOL. Gibson is the father of CyberPunk! i have one of his novels i need to finish, "Pattern Recognition", alas i never got to to complete it.

here's one for you to check out, one of the recent late era sci-fi, "Building Harlequin's Moon" by a old fav, Larry Niven with a new author Brenda Cooper. I got it because of Larry's many works including the "Ringworld" series and his collaborations with Jerry Pournelle, mainly "Lucifer's Hammer"

Now if you want to get into Sci-fantasy then how about a native texan? none other than Robert E. Howard, writer of the Conan novels? notice that L. Sprague de Camp who's on the golden era list helped finish several of Howard's unfinished Conan novels! L. Sprague de Camp also lived in Plano in his later years! coulda been my neighbor if the fates had decreed it!

back to you, girl ...

OEB, I can't believe I forgot the Dune series. I'm not a fan of the stuff that was done by his son but Frank's writing does fall into my personal list of top ten sci-fi novels.

Waco, I've heard of Howard's Conan novels but I haven't sat down to read them yet. I'll bump them up higher on my list since you mentioned them though.

Would Steven King's Gunslinger series fall into Science Fiction or Fantasy? Clive Barker's Imagica and Weaveworld also deserve to be mentioned. Oh and we probably shouldn't forget Ursula K. Leguin's Earthsea.

Though with all this talk about sci-fi and fantasy, we shouldn't forget that there are some awesome writers in general fiction and non-fiction too. Chuck Palanhiuk, despite the fact that I'm never quite sure that I'm pronouncing his name correctly, is one of my favorite writers. Invisible monsters blew me away and Survivor is a novel I've read twenty times but it still hasn't gotten old yet. David Sedaris does some awesome non-fiction and he really proves to me that truth is indeed stranger than fiction, at least in the Sedaris household. Yann Martel's Life of Pi got a lot of acclaim and as I was reading it, I couldn't really understand why... until the last ten pages. I just told someone today about how the last ten pages turn his work from a story into a work of art.
