Don,
You must not spend much time around rich, old white folks if you've never heard anyone express displeasure at the simple idea of having a black - or any race other than their own, for that matter - President. They don't broadcast it. They don't write op-ed pieces about it. But they express themselves, nonetheless. Again, I have observed the behavior and heard the prejudice expressly stated. It is not my opinion and I am not taking it on faith. However, IN MY OPINION, the whole "birther"/Muslim nonsense has a racist undercurrent.
As for "Dole-care", compare our recently-enacted (or should that be "recently repealed"?) health care legislation to the health care plan proposed and advocated by Bob Dole when he was the GOP nominee. You won't find many differences.

When it comes to health care, I am tired of paying for my Houston babes' (who are generally hard working and struggling through college and from families with nothing) health care, when I have to help them after I have paid enormous taxes for the health care system in my own country.
I am also getting 20 emails a day, which I ignore, from an ex babe in UK who is a US citizen, and needs health care in the UK. I'm actually a bit confused about her - she apparently works in the UK, but has to pay for UK health care. WTF?
[for those who don't know, in the UK we pay taxes and get most health care for free at point of delivery, but not of course for free]
Back on topic - so it seems everybody agrees Huckabee is yesterdee.

You're in the UK right? My European colleagues tell me that they buy health insurance because the "free" healthcare is bad and untimely. If you need a broken arm set, its good. If you need cancer treatment, you're fucked!

Hucklebee is a jackass with no chance of running for pres. His attack on Natalie Portman for being single and pregnant was just stupid. How about Palin's daughter? His attack on the President was full of nothing but falsehoods. No matter how you feel about the President you cannot consider Hucklebee for national office if he can't get simple fact straight.
And for all of those who think Obama is leading us to ruin, well he can't do any worse than Bush and the Republicans. Everyone seems to forget that the one-note economic strategy of President George W. Bush, of tax cuts focused on the wealthy, was an abysmal failure yielding the worst investment growth, employment growth and income growth in post-World War II U.S. history—and left the country economically and fiscally exceptionally weak going into the Great Recession. During the Bush years we had not one but two great market failures. If you are going to attack Obama at least be honest about the piss poor job that Bush did.

Since the "rich" comprise about 10% of the adult population, according to Obama, and since the "old folks" are less than that .... and "white" even less than that ....
.... that is hardly a "substantial" number of persons.
The only "rich, old white folks" I know, don't give a rat's ass about Obama, one way or another ..
.... they have insulated their wealth from "his grimies" ...
and they do not need "Obam-care" (whatever that is)!
In fact .... if one worships Huffington (I used to until time took its toll) ...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/09/number-of-us-millionaires_n_491942.html
It’s good to be “rich” with Obaminable.
All the "rich" bashing by the lefty "hit squad" is just hype ..
... take John Kerry for a PERFECT example. His money is overseas..... has been since before BUSH II. Then look at the "Hollywood" do-gooders, who, by the way, are jumping ship ... money overseas. Even Gates is shifting to the Orient..... MicroSoft would leave in a heart beat ... all ready threatened to do so.
The "rich" bashing is an outdated, old age, political tool to mobilize the lower economic class to support the basher. While the basher is trashing their bosses in public, the basher is playing footsies with them in the board room. That is why they are getting richer.

First, When the "if-you-don't-vote-for-Obama-you-are-a-racist" card is played....
... one sitting at the table plays the hand he is dealt.
Secondly, when the "if-you-don't-like-Obama-you-are-a-racist" card is played....
.. it is an insult to ALL persons who critically evaluate job performance based on the results and benefits derived from his efforts .... which
causes me to be amazed at why Black people in this country have not risen up against him and his failed economic policies, since the unemployment rate CURRENTLY in the Black sector of our working population is TWO TIMES that of the White working (or nonworking) sector ...
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm
Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for March 2011
adult men (8.7 percent),
adult women (8.0 percent),
teenagers (23.9 percent),
whites (8.0 percent),
blacks 15.3 percent),
Hispanics (11.6 percent)
Asians (6.8 percent)"
End of Obaminable Administration Statistics quoted.
So why do Blacks continue to support a Black President who has failed them? Race! But of course that is just my "opinion"!

Let's face it, Huckabee is just a media whore trying to grab headlines, as he showed with the Portman statements. Just trying to stay relevant, pandering to the idiot right that seems to consume so much media. He can cynically draw huge paychecks while doing it, so, what the heck.
I think it is fairly hilarious when you hear the idiot right-wing getting all up in arms about the deficit, when they essentially created the debt-bomb. Let's face it, 30 years of "Spend as much on defense as the rest of the world combined and then cut taxes to create massive deficits" have put us up to our ears in debt. Going on and blaming it all on Obama is just silly. This was created by Reagan/Bush, and neither side will probably be able to fix it.
To fix it, you'd have to cut Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security or Defense, because those items, as well as interest on the debt, account for around 3/4 of the budget, and politicians know they will be run out of office by the fools in the US, who honestly believe you can cut Taxes, spend an ass-ton on defense, and not ruin your economy.

I assume they are gonna do what they did under Clinton. Cut Defense and Raise Taxes. This notion that you can get the economy on track without serious cuts, and also probably raising taxes, is just more than a little silly.

Quite obviously, tax the rich . . . 'til they ain't rich no more ( See, "I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After). What else would a "rich-basher" say?
Seriously, what would the social impact be if we allowed folks to keep $10-20 million and took the rest? How many would be impacted? And precisely how would they be impacted? Would life suck if you only had $20 million? Would young people despair that their opportunities are limited and simply give up?
All this aside, the main thrust of my original post was obscured by the attention given to my comment regarding race. The real problem is that social-conservative fanatics are THE most malleable segment of our society. One's brain has got to be mighty fucking soft to sign-on to any sort of fundamentalist religious belief, and that makes those who do an easy mark. Do you think the chairman of Exxon really gives a fuck about abortion or same-sex marriage? Hell no! But he'll support a candidate that pays lip service to those issues if the guy is on board with low taxes for the wealthy, business deregulation, rejection of climate science, and a host of other "money first" issues. There's a host of bona fide idiots out there, and that's what makes a gut like Huckabee dangerous.

Just curious, do you have a problem with someone earning wealth, didn't realize it was anyones business how much money someone earns but that person! Who decides when someone has enough money, I don't beleive my income is anyones business but mine and if you don't agree then lets look at your finances and if you have more than me why don't you give me some of yours so that we are even.

This remark is not "stupid" .... it's ignorant.
First: I said nothing about party affiliation ... you did.
Second, BL that is not a bad thing. Ignorance is curable. I just posted a report provided by HUFFINGTON ...
And what did the "Republicans" have to do with the rich increasing their ranks in 2009? You are falling into that age-old rut of the have-nots whining about the "haves" and demanding a slice of the haves' pie, rather than going out and using a little imagination, and vision, to earn their keep. It is rather mindless to stand there with one's hand out.
Now, for the question, again:

If all one has to contribute is name calling, then I can understand why someone as incompetent as Obaminable gets into office. At least some of his more intelligent supporters are seeing the "light" .......
