When sarcasm is taken totally wrong
Oh boy, another PM. Hmmmm let's see, oh boy another infraction.
Apparently I was sharing medical information. Oh really. I still have a handful of personal friends, but they know I would never share with anybody, for any reason.
It looks like on a couple of postings I mentioned in a sarcastic way that a couple of moderators have OCD. Well this was nothing more than a huge reach to give me points. For the record nobody asked me to make this post in a way to apologize about calling someone as having OCD. However these sarcastic comments were taken literally, which is a joke in itself.
Yes, OCD is bad if a person really has it. But to take a saarcastic comment literally is ridiculous.
Again, I usually don't exchange PM's with members of the board staff, so I have no inside or personal medical knowledge of any member of the board staff. So if I have no personal information, how can I be guilty of sharing that information? Unless I have a target on my back, then anything I post will be taken literally. I never had more than 10 points at any one time, but all of a sudden I'm posting in the political section and the points start piling up. When I got off my bancation, I went back to the political forum and noticed several more people were also banned. I guess it's a right of passage when posting in the political forums to get a bancation.

#15 - Posting about/Speculating about another person's medical condition is strictly forbidden. If a member encounters a medical issue and would like to get feedback from others or share it with the community, this would be allowed, but under no circumstances is a member to discuss or state anything about another member in this regard, unless it is in response to a question posed by that member.
|
Again, I don't know any moderator or admin on a personal basis, therefore I don't have any knowledge of their medical history. I never speculated about them having this illness, they were just sarcastic comments, nothing more.

Most every thread can go off topic.
Say we're talking about Corvettes in the sandbox. So there are several posts about Corvettes, then I mention I had owned a Hellcat.......now the Corvette topic moves to Hellcats as a natural progression of the lead post. Then someone mentions they love their Porsche 911, then some guy with a Tesla Plaid offers his 9.3 seconds worth of information. Now maybe we get back to Corvettes. All this is just a normal thread, guys and gals talking cars. Nobody cusses, nobody flames, it's just a good fun thread that everybody enjoyed. Now here comes a member of the board staff it issue points to the members who posted about the Hellcat, Porsche, and Tesla. Ridiculous and a great big reach at best.
Mods should be taking care of the Houston area troll with probably 15 banned user names instead of worrying about a great thread that did what normal threads do. Some of the rules are antiquated and just out and out ridiculous.. God help you if you mention people dying at the border, can't do that and post in an adult like manner about what they're dying of. If you want to get technical, every review written is a big fuck you to law enforcement, and may be promoting what is now a felony in Texas. I'm not against any hobby forums, it is what it is.

so far in these forums, the moderating seems pretty fair to me. delimix007 even gave me a well-reasoned explanation for my last infraction that led me to post a similar thread. i wasn't really putting him on blast so much; moreso, some bullies who had mis-IDed a new member as a fake handle of Shinepro.
there is another forum where the moderating strikes me as overly heavy-handed. i'm sure you know the one i'm referring to.
excellent mods, imo: Darth Maul, Unique Carpenter, and Delimix007. i'd like to see UC get his moderator status back, although the trolling he was great at shutting down is not as much of a problem here now as it once was.

That would be the national-political forum. But this is just one man's opinion, maybe others, but nothing worth searching the site over.
What I want for Houston is a moderator who will put a stop to the obvious troll and hit the ban icon as soon as he starts his bullshit. He adds nothing to these forums except for starting shit and he needs to go quickly.
UC would be OK. He and I had one major issue, and the issue is that I felt singled out for posting one word, and a search on the very same word came up with 4 pages worth of results. Now if even 50% of those who typed this very forbidden word had been given a 10 pointer, I wouldn't mind it so much, but my gut feeling is not a lot of them got the 10 point hammer dropped on them. Plus the forbidden word is mentioned daily on the internet and has something bad to do with the goings on at the border. Most of us are over 40 and to type that forbidden word and have the teacher hit our hands with a switch and give us a 10 pointer is ridiculous.
I coached recreation sports for 25 years and now a days I'm afraid to mention it because some mods would think I'm talking about ******** and slap me with a 10 pointer.

Here's a thought.
Use the Sarcasam font indicator of:

Ok, guilty of trying to insert a bit of humour.

I am not one of D_J's friends, but I do believe this to be a factual statement

Taking mental health issues seriously is key, but within reason, & should not come at the expense of reasonable humor
