Trump: obliterate Iran
Trump claims he ordered ‘obliteration’ of Iran if he’s assassinated in chilling warning: ‘I’ve left instructions’
Does he realize when he is dead, he is not the President any longer ?

An act of war is an act of war.
Besides, obliterating Iran is long overdue.
Or at least their nuke labs below that mountain, all dams, all electrical production, all ports naval and commercial (spare small fishing ports), all air fields, all military equipment.

You kind of miss the point.
If Trump is dead, no one follows his instructions. The new President will be giving the instructions.
Or maybe Trump thinks he continues to be President when he is dead.

The military has multiple variations of standing orders to deal with Acts of War.
That said, the VP is acting Pres (until oath taking, then is Pres) has full access to all levels of security info, and can give any orders he wishes. Besides, the Israelis are ready to go and just need an excuse.
I've taught political history, mostly North Eastern Med back a couple thou yrs, but elsewhere and diff timeframes as well.
Also taught ethics and philosophy. Teaching didn't pay that well though.

Does anyone believe the Iranians would kill a US president and immediately claim responsibility

They don't have to claim that, nor does the military have to wait for a full investigation.
The only restriction that exists is the Geneva Convention about avoiding civilian casualties, and there are exceptions to that where collateral damage can occur. And btw, note how carefully the Israelis claim that when they take out enemy military units.
For Iran, note my targeting list above.

A great example of why I don't think that big mouth idiot is going to make it 4 years. Antagonizing a country with a lot of people with nothing to lose but one person would be considered a hero if he put a bullet in your rapidly decaying brain is not a smart move... Trump's faux machismo and dementia are a bad combo.
U_C, Iran would just say it was some militant group, and they had no knowledge of it. That's not an act of war.
I'm not sure what orders mean after a president has had his head blown off and I doubt Trump does either. Are those detailed instructions left in a will or some shit? LOL

Lucas,
Dis-claimable militant groups are classic Iranian excuses.
Palestinian also, and a few African countries that cross common borders.
Simply will not fly.
Pentagon has numerous plans on hand, which have been around for decades and are constantly created, updated, etc.
Of course if it's a disgruntled US citizen without middle eastern heritage, that's quickly identified within a couple hours, that's a different story, that again falls into failures of the Secret Service.

Trump wasn't just talking about his assination. If Iran assinates any number of high level officials he will act.

Bud, he was talking about himself. He doesn't give a shit about anyone else. A person with no empathy doesn't care about others.

U_C, unlike many in this forum, I have no problem with admitting and posting that you probably know much more about this type of stuff than I do.

Good grief.
The whole point is Trump thinks he will still be President and giving orders after he is dead.

^^^^ There is already a dementia thread. U_C at least made this one a more interesting thread to expound on that differently for a more reasonable and less subjective discussion IMO.

Yes Lucas.
I usually avoid the rambling threads.
A decent discussion item will get my attention.
As for Trump, of course the CIC can (and usually does) make "suggestions" to the Pentagon.
