Well txdot, after giving the matter further thought I am starting to appreciate your point...
1. My friend's daughter plays on a women's college volleyball team. She is being forced to play with biological men who "identify" as female. These freaks spike the ball and cause injuries every chance they get. They prance around naked in the women's locker room/showers. My friend is furious. He is mulling whether to hire someone to shoot NCAA CEO Charlie Baker, who changed the college sports rules to allow all this to happen. He said "you can only push people so far..." He thinks this is a good way to get everyone to discuss and fix the issue. What do you think?
2. Another guy I know is very upset about recent events in the Middle East. He frets that nobody is talking about it, let alone working on a solution to his liking. He says "you can only push people so far..." One of his relatives suggested maybe they should hijack and fly a couple of 787s into One World Trade Center in NYC. Wouldn't that be a brilliant way to spark discussion of the inequities in the Middle East?
3. Or to return to your pet topic - health insurance. I know someone who is furious about how much he has to pay for health insurance. Prior to Obamacare it was quite affordable. After Obamacare was rolled out, his premiums skyrocketed. Now he pays the equivalent of another mortgage each month just to insure his family's health. He says "you can only push people so far..." Nobody is talking about his personal situation. My friend thinks if Obama was assassinated by a disgruntled health-care activist, it would be a good thing since it would bring more attention to his plight.
You know, txdot, I used to believe anyone who thinks this way is morally depraved. No longer. You've converted me to the liberal-progressive mindset! I mean, you can only push people so far! The end justifies the means! Anyone who thinks otherwise is just expressing faux outrage!
(Full Disclosure - The individuals cited above are imaginary. They don't really exist. But if we keep electing morally debased reprobates like Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as our representatives, then people like the imaginary ones I just described will become real and commonplace.)

Better change your avatar, WD.
Here's what John Fetterman, a US Senator who appears to have a moral compass, said:
“If you gun someone down that you don’t happen to agree with their views or the business that they’re in, hey, you know, I’m next, they’re next,” Mr. Fetterman added. “And people want to celebrate it. It’s twisted.”

No lie. More like a parable or fable. Thanks for admitting it all went straight over your head.
Your murderer pal Luigi is now in NYC. Have you launched a GoFundMe account yet to cover his legal bills?

And this right here is why your argument is so much bullshit.
What you’re describing is a belief that if someone doesn’t express the same outrage as you then their feelings about the murder aren’t as valid or in this case nonexistent.
Just because someone doesn’t wear the horsehair shirt or flagellate themselves at the altar of conservative values doesn’t mean that they condone violence or murder. No one is a “pal” of the murderer Luigi.
That you would think that is proof to me of your intolerance and political extremism. Someone can disagree with you without being the enemy. Someone can abhor violence and still advocate for their values.
Are you really angry about their supposed lack of empathy or because they espouse democratic socialism in our healthcare system? I’m guessing that it’s the latter.

Txdot, you are giving way too much thought into this left bashing troll thread. The subject title says it all. It's up to you to play along but I find it rather silly to do so which is why I don't bother. In threads like this, just put in your 2 cents and bounce.
Just a hint, if it is a thread bashing democrats and morality is mentioned, don't waste your time. Talking about anyone's morality and their affiliated political party on a whore board under a fake name says the ridiculousness of the thread just in the title alone. He is just looking for dumb shit to argue about to bash the left and you are playing his troll game. No offense, but be smarter than that.

If someone expresses outrage at a murder but then immediately pivots to explaining/excusing/justifying it, they signal to me loudly & clearly that their feelings of outrage are not very deep or genuine.
Just because someone doesn’t wear the horsehair shirt or flagellate themselves at the altar of conservative values doesn’t mean that they condone violence or murder.
Conservative values? To oppose cold-blooded murder is to assert a basic HUMAN value, not a liberal or conservative one.
No one is a “pal” of the murderer Luigi.
My comment was directed at Yssup, not you. Notice he hasn't disavowed it.

I'm not the extremist here. Unless you also consider my Senator, Democrat John Fetterman, to be an extremist. My views on this align with his.
Timing is everything in life, txdot. The only proper and decent response to Brian Thompson's murder is to condemn it unequivocally and stfu. If you can't stfu, then condemn the open support for his killing in the social media swamp too. This is not the time to morally equivocate and use the guy's death as a platform to make a political point about health care. That's obscene, disrespectful, indecent, insensitive, tone-deaf and extremely bad form.
Are you really angry about their supposed lack of empathy or because they espouse democratic socialism in our healthcare system? I’m guessing that it’s the latter.
|
I don't know wtf "democratic socialism in our healthcare system" even means. But if you had even a smidgen of genuine empathy toward Brian Thompson and his family, you would instinctively know now is not the time to bring it up. Now is the time to zip it.

Hello Luke. Nice to see you no longer have me on ignore. Just an fyi - this is anything but a "troll thread". Do you think the WSJ uses its editorial platform to troll? I don't.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you post somewhere else agreeing with me on this topic?

Everybody wants a scapegoat. For Pol Pot it was the bourgeoisie and the capitalists. For the Nazis it was the Jewish population. And for Progressive Democrats it's the big corporations and the wealthy. If you get rid of the scapegoats or at least reeducate them, the world will be a better place.
The irony is that among the bourgeoisie, the capitalists, the Jews and the health care executives, there are many bright, enterprising individuals who can make the world a better place. You don't go and off them. The United Healthcare CEO was as well situated as anyone to help cure ails that afflict our healthcare system, if our politicians ever get up off their asses and pass some legislation to make it happen.
MAGA Republicans shouldn't get off scot free here either. Their scapegoats are the illegal immigrants and the Chinese. But at least they're not scapegoating their fellow citizens.
I have no sympathy for this entitled prick who apparently never had any interaction with United Healthcare. Yeah, our system is royally screwed up. We pay a lot more than other developed countries for healthcare and get worse outcome. But if you want to point a finger, point it at the political class. The insurance companies play within the rules set by government.
Politicians are the problem. They have no business coming up with excuses for Mangione.

On the other hand, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and AOC are just saying what their constituents, people like these guys, want them to,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_swGiAHhbQ
https://www.newyorker.com/news/the-l...gue%20graduate.
....He is, by consensus, handsome, and jacked. “Holy happy trail, Batman!” Stephen Colbert enthused, over an en-plein-air portrait of a shirtless and beaming Luigi Mangione, who was briefly America’s most wanted man, and perhaps still is. “You know that guy’s Italian, because you could grate parmesan on those abs,” Colbert went on. (His fellow late-night host Taylor Tomlinson was more succinct: “Would.”) In his mug shot, Mangione, chiselled and defiant, appears ready for his closeup in a reboot of “Rocco and His Brothers.” He wears a hoodie well. On Monday night, a friend texted me a photograph of police escorting a dramatically backlit Mangione to his arraignment, and added, “Even the cops are trying to get him acquitted.”
....In trying to establish a motive for the alleged murder, authorities have cited a note that was apparently found on Mangione when he was arrested at a McDonald’s, in central Pennsylvania. “Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming,” it read. “A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy.” The note also stated that UnitedHealthcare’s size and power have permitted it to “abuse our country for immense profit.” Thompson, who became C.E.O. in 2021, increased UnitedHealthcare’s profits by five billion dollars in just two years. Between 2019 and 2022, UnitedHealthcare more than doubled its denial rate for prior-authorization requests for post-acute care. One of Thompson’s signature innovations was to use a predictive algorithm to kick ailing and disabled Medicare patients out of nursing homes and rehabilitative programs, causing untold misery and penury. And UnitedHealthcare has increasingly demanded—and often denied—prior authorization for any number of ordinary necessities: colonoscopies, or insulin, or pain medication following major surgery, or physical, occupational, or speech therapy.
As of now, Mangione remains in Pennsylvania, where his legal team is fighting his extradition to New York. The support and affection for him that predominates online—its photo negative is the fear and loathing directed at our health-care system—appears to extend to the jail where he is being held. On Wednesday, Mangione’s fellow-inmates could be heard calling out of their windows, “Free Luigi!” and “Luigi’s conditions suck!” Meanwhile, Luigi merch is already hitting the market...

And you paid for all of it, though you may be unaware
You're paying for the paper, you're paying for the phone
You paid their salary to deny you what you're owed

There ain't no "You" in UnitedHealth
There ain't no "Me" in the company
There ain't no "Us" in the private trust
There's hardly humans in humanity

The procedure that you need ain't the cost effective route
And only two-percent of peoplе end up winning a dispute
So, if you get sick, pray to God for hеlp
'Cause all your doctor's prayers go up through UnitedHealth

Way back in

Started buying HMO's and putting federal grants to work
Now it's fifty-billion bucks he made just last year
The Warren Buffet of health, the Jeff Bezos of fear
[Verse 4]
CEO's come and go and one just went
The ingredients you got bake the cake you get
So, if you get sick, cross your fingers for luck
'Cause old Richard T. Burke ain't givin' a fuck
[Verse 5]
Commoditized health, monopolized fraud
"here's the doctors we own and research that we bought
They own loans and physicians, pharmacies and meds
They should start selling graves just to fuck you when you're dead
[Chorus]
There ain't no "You", in UnitedHealth
There ain't no "Me", in the company
There ain't no "Us" in the private trust
There's hardly humans in humanity

Fry Luigi in the Electric Chair
Ok, txdot. You're off topic. Again.
The topic is how morally depraved it is for anyone - and especially for our elected politicians - to justify pre-meditated, first-degree homicide by saying "people are angry" about our less-than-perfect healthcare system.
You want to change the topic to take the side of the killer, for no other reason than because the entitled prick appears to have been motivated by one of your pet liberal-progressive SJW causes. If you really believe the "people are angry" argument is a valid one, then you should join Luigi Mangione's legal defense team and help them use it to persuade a jury to acquit him on the basis of justifiable homicide. At the very least, you should put your money where your mouth is and contribute to his legal defense fund.
In my post #31, I presented 3 (hypothetical) examples of the same kind of twisted thinking you are indulging in. Why did you ignore them? Is it because none of the 3 examples elevate any of your pet liberal-progressive SJW causes? Are you incapable of seeing that the same twisted thinking you indulge in can be used against you? In spite of all your denials, you are rationalizing and condoning cold-blooded murder, as long as it is in service of the "right" cause, one that you can approve of.
Maybe you should try to feel some of that empathy that the left is always boasting about and put yourself in Brian Thompson's shoes. When he went to work each day at United Healthcare, I'm certain he believed he was contributing positively to the health and well-being of millions of Americans. I'm sure he kept himself informed on how well he was performing inter alia by reading consumer satisfaction reports, such as the one below showing 9 out of 10 of the company's customers would recommend United Healthcare to others.
https://www.insure.com/companies/uni...insurance.html
But you don't pay any attention to that, do you? It doesn't advance your stupid narrative of evil capitalists putting profit ahead of customer satisfaction. You and Liz and Bernie and AOC are ready & eager to cast him as a villain who deserved to be shot and killed because... (omg!) his company guidelines limited PT/rehab after knee replacement surgery to 90 days.
As John Fetterman said "it's twisted". Yep, it certainly is.

The hypocrisy from the authors/defenders/supporters of the J6 insurrection is so thick you can cut it with a mushroom dick.
Suddenly, there's "moral" outrage!
Please. I abhor and condemn the killing but believe this lunacy is only possible in a world turned inside out. Guess how that happened?
And the WSJ continues to be a shill for MAGA. Trusk musta had a word with Murdoch.

Off topic, yssup. J6 has nothing to do with this thread.
And you shouldn't comment on publications that you obviously don't even read. The WSJ Editorial Board has criticized Trump (for all the right reasons, unlike you) ever since the day he first came down the escalator at Trump Tower.
But that's also off-topic here.
