Bingo! Now you're on to something. You still think of a tariff as a discreate tax, while ignoring all of the offsets to other taxes. That's fine, many make the same mistake, i.e. only looking at the tariff, not the opportunities they create to jettison other taxes and produce a net reduction to the US taxpayer. So the question becomes: Where do your loyalties lay? In the US or other countries?

But the bigger picture is something altogether different. Tariffs have been a thing, world wide, for a very long time. Ever hear of "dumping"? That's where a country decides to flood a market with subsidized goods to crater a specific industry to later jack prices for their ultimate gain and industry dominance. Another tariff example.

And then there's the cudgel: That's where you do this, we do that. Basically, the bigger picture scenario. Trying to sell things to us built from slave labor, as an example. Should we accept that? What about flooding our country with interlopers and contraband, while try to sell us products? So the question becomes: Where do your loyalties lay? In the US or other countries?

This is Trump’s modus operandi. His tariff threats are used as a jumping off point for negotiations over the current thing. They almost never happen but do bring the other side to the table, which is exactly what they’re intended to do.

Hope Mr. Trump's ideas for the 2nd term turn out better than the first time around.


Last time around he was telling everyone Mexico would pay for a border wall....which Mexico never did. Then Trump saw the chance to raise money and donations to pay for it. Unfortunately his chief strategist is facing criminal charges for taking that money.


There is a very good chance tariffs like these would stagnate the economy. Currently the markets just made a
47th all time high. But we don't want to give the Biden administration too much credit for that.
