Trump did get a lot of passes on the law, which would include issues related to some, but not all, of the following.
1. He lost $900 million of bondholders money
2. He didn't repay hundreds of millions of loans from banks
3. He shortchanged and sometimes just didn't pay contractors and other service providers
4. He persuaded Fred Trump to give and bequest more to him than his brothers and sisters
5. He probably caused appraisers and others to massively underestimate the value of Fred's estate, saving many millions in estate taxes
6. He probably misled appraisal districts and the like as to the value of his properties, to save on tax.
7. He was complicit in the Trump University scam
8. He probably tried to hold up U.S. aid to Ukraine until certain bogus and questionable claims were investigated -- claims related to Hillary Clinton's computers and Crowd Strike and Joe Biden's involvement with Burisma.
9. He tried to steal the 2020 election from Joe Biden
I imagine there were no violations of the law related to some of these incidents. And Trump did have to pay up for some as well, like Trump University. But they had victims. Even item "9", which has resulted in jail time and probated sentences for some of his strongest supporters, and injuries to Capitol police. If he's going to be prosecuted for criminal or civil violations, these are the sort of things prosecutors should have gone after. Real crimes. Not paying off a porn star.
We have the rule of law in the United States of America. It's one of the main reasons America is a more prosperous and fairer place to live than most other countries. And that rule of law has broken down in New York and is being used for political purposes.
The ends do not justify the means. You don't punish people simply because you think they deserve it. You do so because you've shown in a court that they violated laws, laws that make sense, not made up shit like New York Executive Law 63(12), or falsification of business records to pay off women who are going to blab on you otherwise.
I don't know about you, but I want my president to grab women by the pussy.
|
Grabbing a woman by the kitty kat amounts to sexual assault, which is a worse crime than booking an expense with the wrong title in a business record. Trump would not have been charged if the title of the expense was "NDA to Stephanie Clifford". Unless you watch a lot of porn you would not know that Stormy Daniels real name is "Stephanie Clifford".
Hopefully, Biden will beat Trump. However, if Trump wins he can serve his term and do any jail time afterwards. He would probably be confined to Trump Tower. I am sure secret service would rather set up shop at Trump Tower than at Rikers Island.

Exactly Adav8s28. And apparently there would have been no charge if he had reported the money he paid Stephanie Clifford through Michael Cohen as a campaign contribution. I don't understand why Alvin Bragg decided to prosecute this case. Joe Biden channeled money that he loaned his brother through a lawyer. I wonder if there are Delaware laws that would enable an aggressive prosecutor to go after him for that.
The one silver lining in this is maybe it will make the political class more likely to pursue reform of the justice system. Trump's saying, "This could happen to you too" to his supporters. So maybe he'll do something about it if he wins, although I kind of doubt it. As Yssup said somewhere else, Trump mostly focuses on himself.

Agree. Look at this video and you will agree with the network, a former ESPN reporter, and the Spectator. Evil won in NY as controlled by the WH and his muppeteers.

As Biden walked away from the podium, a reporter shouted out a question: "Donald Trump refers to himself as a political prisoner and blames you directly. What's your response to that, sir?"
The president paused, turned to the reporters and flashed what some called a "disturbing" smile for almost 10 seconds before walking away, not offering a verbal response.
If Biden were smart he'd keep his mouth shut. Given the jury pool Bragg had to draw upon (88% Democrats) and the legal gymnastics to convict Trump of the 34 felonies, this looks rigged to a lot of Americans.

And it continues....
Question fer ya, stud: what "thinking person" told this to ya, since you ain't never had an actual original thought fer yerself....
I'm LOVING it when people like you call people like me a bully. Yet you worship a man who has made this mainstream. He defines the very term. It is his SOP that he learned from unbelievably corrupt BULLIES like Roy Cohn, and that he now encourages from everyone who supports him.
Y'all want it both ways. You want Trump and his lackies to be able to use every despicable and rude tactic they can think of to disparage, denigrate and delegitimize their foes. But then you can't fucking take it when someone stands up to you using those same tactics and language. You ain't getting away with that any more. There's a few of us who are calling out your hypocrisy in that regard. More will join in.
BTW...speaking of "worship"...the mistake that you and your Wehrmacht buddies make about me is that you assume I am "liberal" and support people like the Clintons. NOPE. Never voted for either of them and think they both likely committed crimes that should have been pursued.
I absolutely despise Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
I have always thought Joe Biden was a doddering fool, and I am DAMN PISSED that the whole Trump situation has given him a path back to the White House.
And WHY...pray tell....would you think that I support "failed central planing control of the economy"? (sic) Jeezis. You really should consider having a "thinking person" review these inane ideas before you post them. Then again...please don't! These little dingleberries are precious, and I would not want to deprive the board of the opportunity to experience your wisdom in full...)
Lastly...(and maybe for quite awhile!)...Speakin of "can't take it"....summa you been whining to the Mods. I assure you they are reacting. I'll accept my next points and the consequences that will come with them....unlike the recently convicted felon and his worshippers. And for damn sure I ain't "standing by" while you and the other Trumpian trolls on here spout the nonsense that he has been persecuted and deserves to be Prez again.
Now let me eat my points in peace. I've been sucked into doing something that I advised others against, i.e. responding to you and the utter nonsense that you post.

Good luck with that. I personally think that the Justice Department has a pretty good record of keeping political considerations out of their decisions.
Partisans on both sides of the aisle will complain when things don’t go their way regardless of the merits of the decision they are complaining about.
If Trump wins he’ll gut the Justice Department and fill it full of people as partisan as possible. Mark my words. Trump will be a disaster as an executive for the federal government.

No more rigged or unfair than what Mitch McConnell did by packing the Supreme Court. Unfortunately there is no appeal for what he did. I do find it a lot more evil than what happened to The Donald however.
In New York Donald got screwed, The Supreme Court screwed America.

I wasn't getting at politically motivated prosecutions. There are innocent people in jail who pled guilty because they didn't have the resources to mount a defense. Also people in jail guilty of "crimes" that shouldn't be crimes, like prostitution. Those who receive sentences that are way too long. Our incarceration rates are close to the highest in the world.
Companies that had very little to do with asbestos were forced into bankruptcy, along with the only manufacturer of silicone breast implants. Companies stopped manufacturing private aircraft in the USA for a long while because they were getting sued out of existence. Apparently the oil and gas industry will be the next target.
Those are the kinds of things that I wish the political class would wake up to. Perhaps some politicians who view the Trump porn star/mistress verdict as evil will wake up and recognize the bigger problem.

Harry Reid started it in 2013 when he did away with the filibuster for judicial nominations, except for the Supreme Court. It was only a matter of time before Republicans retaliated.
That said, I wish both sides would stop the escalation. Packing the Supreme Court with 15 judges or whatever or ending the filibuster would come back to haunt whichever party might choose to pass those measures. And it would be bad for America IMHO.
An example of unanticipated consequences -- the Republican Party is at a big disadvantage this year electorally because of the Dobbs abortion decision, which probably would never have happened if McConnell hadn't ended the filibuster for Supreme Court appointments.
I'm not a fan of what Reid or McConnell did.
It's probably best not to pursue this further here -- we're getting off topic.

Friendly Reminder: A fish rots from the gills up...
This smells fishy AF...
Quote:
Jesse Watters: “There is Something Very Fishy About How Judge Mershon Came to Preside Over This Case”
...Watters: There’s something very fishy about how Judge Mershon came to preside over this case. There are 24 sitting judges who were supposed to be randomly selected from to take this case.
Judge Merchan wasn’t even on the list of judges.
He’s an acting judge.
And he’s not just a Biden donor. Judge Merchan donated to the Progressive Turnout Project and to an organization called Stop Trump, and he never recused himself.
Judge Merchan was allegedly randomly selected for the Trump Hush Money case, the Trump Organization Fraud case, and for the Steve Bannon case.
This is almost statistically impossible that an acting judge, not within the pool of sitting judges, who happens to be a stopped Trump donor, is randomly selected to all three of these Trump cases within the same year. It’s probably another conspiracy theory.
Just like the resistance left, fell in love with Fauci, Mueller, and Avenadi, they now have a man crush on Merchan.
MSNBC Clip: With respect to Judge Merchan,I felt like a man crush on him. He is, he’s such a great judge that it’s hard to see that the jurors wouldn’t have the same impression. You just keep on thinking, if you looked in a dictionary for judicial temperament, that’s what you get....
|
You can verify part of the claim over at the Lap-It-Up-Dawg channel known as CBS. AP also verifies same Judge assigned to all. She-Dang! Even the pole dancer at Snoops had to do mutliple gulps on fact checking Merchan's daught being a political operative. The rest smells ripe too.
Did Daughter of Judge in Trump Hush-Money Case Work for Harris, Biden Campaigns?
Frick'n O'Zombies, lapping up the Pravda media's regurgitated stories, fed to them by their masters... Sieg Heil !

Was the daughter the judge? Let me go get my "who gives a fuck?" box to file this shit under.
I mean, it's not like trump ever invited his kids to fuck things up at the White House, right? I suppose nepotism is only possible if it's not trump.
