The true historical reason for the electoral college was to give more representation to those states with larger populations of black slaves which at the time counted as 2/5ths of a person. A state could have more free persons who were allowed to vote but their share of representation was diminished by states with high slave populations all of whom could not vote but nevertheless counted as a 2/5th contribution to the total number of electors.

Got my numbers wrong. 3/5th not 2/5th.

Please try to stay on topic, which is you gushing over polling for a change.

Unless you’re ready to walk it back in anticipation of another rigged election…

... I'm the OP here, mate... If TX-dot or another fellow
wants to expand on something for half-a-mo as we have
a good discussion, then I don't see the harm.
When did you become a Monitour?? ... Why not let them decide things.

And whether or not I'm gushing over - or just revealing the polls
or explaining them - perhaps you might learn something IF you'd
simply follow along. ...

As I said, if the shoe was on the other foot and Republicans were winning the popular vote and in some instances losing the electoral vote, they would be bitching loud and hard to change the system. I'm sure there are many other countries in this world where many areas of the country are under-represented due to population, but not one has adopted a system similar to the electoral college. Seems like presidential election in the U.S. is the only one where "one person, one vote" does not stand true.

Again: How is any of this good for America?

These questions remain un-answered.

I would also ask how defunding the police helps out any of us. How is it that unopposed shoplifting is good for local communities?

How is it good for neighborhoods to lose grocery stores and pharmacies due to uncontrolled, unopposed theft of products?

How is it best for the downtown mercantile centers of our major cities to lose high-end retail outlets due to organized pillage and looting?

C'mopn now, someone step up and explain this to the rest of us.

... Trump (The Leader in the polls) again wants a strong
police force - to protect and serve the public. ...

... It's the Dems who seem to want to Defund the Police.
Though I reckon that Portland and Seattle and Chicago are
no doubt sorry for that effort - NOW that crime has skyrocketed!

... However, to be fair - I don't know if President Biden himself
has called for Cutting Funding or dismantling the police.
Though I might be wrong about that.

I am more left leaning than some, but I don't believe in letting any crimes slide. I would toss these law breaking pricks in the can for a year ever time they are caught.

What we really need is prison reform, we're going to prison is no longer considered a rite of passage or a way to waste a year, with three hots and a cot, but rather heavy labor, sweaty shitty barracks style housing, and one or two meals a day tops. The south has a smarter approach to some prison actions, they actually make the prisoners do work. I understand it may even be a luxury for them to be able to go out and do garbage collection on the roadway compared to sitting in a cell and looking at four walls, but that's the way it should be. You don't repay back your debt to society by sitting on your ass. But politicians seem to be doing it and getting paid all the time. Literally I would say bring back the old school police that would bash somebody's arm and if they caught him stealing shit more than a couple times.

Eyecu2: Thanks for that direct response on crime. I like what you say.

But there is still the question about immigration. I invite anyone else to make a direct response to that question.

I am not looking to hear what fr-om folks who agree with me on this. I want to hear from those who think unrestricted, unlimited immigration is a good thing for America and why.

Please consider that we are talking to those non-participant lurkers who need convincing.

Don't worry. The leader will be shown on election day. Like the last election.

... The Leader is shown right now... In the polling.

Morning Consult... Trump up 4... Rassmussen up 6... Emerson up 2
but IF Biden drops out and either Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer
is the candidate - then Trump + 10 or 12...

ANYBODY out there got Joe ahead?? ...
