Finally Texas is getting rid of the requirement to pass a car safety inspection every year.

But they are still going to charge the $ 7.50 fee. They are calling it "safety inspection replacement fee" or something similar.

Fees, fees, fees. Everybody wants a fee for doing nothing.

Bad idea. This new law will not keep unsafe vehicles off of roads. This will have deathly consequences soon after implementation. Folks in large metro counties will still have to get their vehicles inspected for emissions. This new law only pertains to non commercial vehicles.

Huge mistake getting rid of safety inspections.

The Used Car Lobby that caters to selling cars to illegals probably got this through.

Republican Rep. Cody Harris of Palestine and Sens. Mayes Middleton of Galveston and Bob Hall of Edgewood sponsored the bill to do away with annual vehicle inspections. The law appears to take effect in 2025.

This is a huge and biggly mistake
Inspections cost around 25 bucks.
What a nominal fee to make sure your vehicle is safe to operate. Way to fight big gov.. that'll showem .

Come to Pa. 39.99 for the safety inspection and then 29.99 for the emissions. Typically out the door costs add some other bullshit fees, etc. it usually a hundred per car. We don't have a personal property tax on vehicles though. NJ is even worse.

That is even better than getting your out of town visitors to pay for your stadiums by taxing them
more for hotels and rental cars.



As far as whether safety inspections make the roads safer, I would not think any reliable statistics are available on that.....just opinions.


In Houston a week or so ago, a little ice created havoc. Highway 59 reported 32 accidents before they closed it.

Oh no doubt it's a money grab by the folks at state HQ! But you should visit a state like OH, that has no safety inspection, lots of snow in winter, and salt applied to the roads. Half the cars have giant holes in them, and would be immediately junked in PA.

Matter of fact- half the used cars sold at auctions in WV and OH are from PA due to the fact that rust cancer makes them unsellable in PA! But in those other states, you can still hock them for a few sheckles.

How can anyone think that doing away with safety inspections won't have an immediate impact? This is bad news.
