We signedf a treaty with them when the Soviet Union dissolved that committed us to guarantee their sovereignty. When Putin invaded the Eastrn provinces of Ukraine and the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, then President Obama did nothing to support Ukraine.

What's your view on the Ukraine situation Eccieuser? Our views are similar on a number of social and foreign policy issues and I'm wondering if this is one of them.

Haven't shown that from the previous stuff sent there.
I'd bet none of the F16 that might show up would be nuke capable.

I think that may be one reason it has taken so long to get them to Ukraine . . .they are "de-nuking" them.

I would note here that the F-16 is totally "Fly-by-wire" meaning all controls are electronically actuated . . .meaning that it is possible to make an F-16 into a supersonic, long range drone. And the Ukrainians have done a lot of work on creating their own drones and missles by adapting other vehicles . . . so . . .

Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. Early in the conflict there was reporting that the U.S. and NATO were withholding sophisticated, offensive weapons from Ukraine because we were concerned that attacks on Russian territory might cause the Ruskies to respond with nukes. Not sure if that had something to do with the delay in the F16’s.

See ICU’s comments above about the range of the F16.

You brought up an interesting point — here’s what Russia is saying. I’m not saying it makes sense,

Ah! Good old Tass. I wonder if Pravada is still being printed.

Otherwise, I didn't think the F16 was a consideration for nuclear delivery. Its origins were blueprinted to be an airplane that could fly up its own asshole.

With the longevity of its design and multiple uses expanded with each upgrade, probably was inevitable that the a-bomb was gonna be on the menu.

Any president can order the nato article for leaving Nato. senate doesn't have a say on it. however, they can try to override any president decision to leave nato.

this year Congress passed the 2023 military ominibus bill (i forget whats it called) which included the anti-nato leave law which prevented the president from leaving nato without a senate vote.
