Again, Pennie is the official ACA marketplace in PA.
You have to apply via Pennie to get any ACA subsidy.
Those are the real numbers and the only numbers that matter

You must have huge deductibles or something because that’s way too cheap.

It's UPMC Silver. You can go to their website and see everything about it, including deductible, copay, and monthly premium for different age brackets. I don't know what you would consider to be a huge deductible, but you can go check it out yourself if your so concerned.

Yeah, I did check it out. It’s better than no insurance, but 30% of a hospital stay can get REALLY expensive. My mom has supplement policy on top of her Medicare, it’s ~$150/month, just for the 20% gap Medicare doesn’t cover.

A buddies wife just passed from something they called HLH (because they didn’t want to say they hadn’t the slightest clue) at 52 years old. The ~2 weeks she spent in the TICU at Montifiore, the highest level of care in Pittsburgh, was almost 1.5mil. The helo ride alone, from UPMC Monroeville to Oakland, was over 40 grand.

I’m not trying to give you financial advice, clearly that’s none of my business, but if it were me I’d strongly consider a more expensive per month option that covered a higher percentage.

Well, I'm glad that you're not trying to give me financial advice, because you didn't really do an accurate evaluation of the plan. My maximum yearly out of pocket limit is $8700. If had to spend 2 weeks in the ICU it would cost me $8700. My PCP copay is $40 and my specialist copay is $70. I've had this plan for years and it's worked out quite well for me. If I had to spend a month in the ICU, I'd still be ahead of the game compared to if I was paying for gold or platinum all these years. If I'd did what you would do, I'd be behind at this point, even if I had to spend a month in the ICU, but I haven't had to, and I barely go to the doctor at all. This coverage is mainly in case I get injured so that I don't have to pay 1.5 million.

Oh, right. I didn’t consider max out of pocket. That’s a good plan then for that price. I’m with you on the doctor thing. Unless there’s a limb about to fall off I avoid doctors offices.
