Why? Folks on the right don’t even believe in federal agencies. They definitely don’t want regulations. They definitely believe the EPA shouldn’t exist. Why whine now, depend on the state to take care of the issue in Ohio.

A Diverity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI) hire. Plus it makes for something of an insurance policy, kinda what FJB was for Obamma...

Someone needs to pump the brakes and back up. (I know, bad taste.)
Should look at who turned back the rules on the safety for these railroad cars.
For people to complain what is happening there need to look at why it happened. Seems to be a ruling under the former potus. But they can't bear to say a bad thing about him.

actually it was an Obama era proposal that was decided by the GAO later under Trump as not cost effective. and it would have applied to gas/oil tankers so wouldn't have been mandated on these type of railcars which is a bit odd to not to include tankers with hazardous materials. and speed wasn't a factor here so it wouldn't have prevented this accident.
as for fema they have been acting but not nearly as well as they should but according to fema in a classic example of gov redtape this issue ultimately belongs to the epa and it's their job to engage fema. so it's the epa that apparently is driving the response and not with much documented urgency.
the entire response is a disgrace no matter who's supposed to be leading it.

Wait did you already determine the cause of the derailment?
That was pretty fast... Good thing wikipedia has you on staff... you should probably update the entry..

Security footage from a business in Salem, Ohio (20 miles [32 km] from East Palestine), and a Ring doorbell camera from New Waterford, Ohio (4 miles [6 km] from East Palestine), show fire emanating from underneath a rail car.[18][19][20] After this, at around 8:55 pm EST on February 3, 2023, 51 cars derailed on the east side of town, near the border with Pennsylvania. 49 of the cars ended up in a derailment pile, which caught fire and burned for several days.[21][22] Of the 51 derailed cars, 11 contained hazardous materials, including vinyl chloride, benzene residue, and butyl acrylate

Doesn't matter what *I* determined the cause of derailment.
I don't have any association with the NTSB.

that engineer when he got a report of brake failure, he turned on the brakes. didn't do the train much good. got derailed anyway.
theres a reason why some regulations get killed. sometimes they don't work or the safety regulations that promote safety are technically questionable. cost effectiveness is also another reason.
its known that there are 1,000+ derailments each year since the obama administration. how many of them are tankers.
