Just looking at SS this:
1) Shows efforts have been frequently made without a sunset providing being necessary
2) Shows review is occurring without a sunset being being necessary
There's work being done on this

Wow. You know that none of those are legitimate attempts to address the issue. Stop your gaslighting

This is par for the course for the left, spreading misinformation
Meanwhile whether you agree with his approach to the issue or not, Senator Rick Scott is one of the only ones in the Senate with the balls to challenge Congress to do something and tell the American people how they plan to stop Medicare and Social Security from going bankrupt.
Yet we see the misinformation and gaslighting about this from leftists everywhere

I think the sunset clause is a good idea. It will force politicians to address an issue which they appear unwilling to do. Doing nothing rarely makes a problem go away, and usually makes it worse.

Except the sunset provision is the proof. If all he was suggesting is a review, he wouldn't introduce it.
This is the political equivalent of Dwight's Accountability Booster without the failsafe.

Proof of what? Someone is smart enough to actually address the issue? It forces a review and politicians to do something to avoid insolvency. Without it the can will be kicked down the road and people who paid into the system all their lives will be shit out of luck.

HDGristle,
You know a sunset provision does not mean that a program automatically ends when the sunset time is reached. It means that the program ends when that time is reached only if the program is not renewed by Congress prior to the sunset. I see no real issue with this for Federal programs in general. How many “temporary” programs are still ongoing? Just an example, one of the many small fees that are charged by cell phone companies is the result of a “temporary” tax program passed in 1898 to fund the Spanish-American War.
Sunset provisions would meeely force Congress to get off its ass and actually do it’s job. Social Security and Medicare - yeah these are popular; we’d better figure out a way to get these renewed and solvent or the voters are going to toss us out of here. Funding for the Spanish-American War - yeah maybe we can let that one go. The point is not to end programs per se, but to force Congress to discuss and debate the merits of each program it’s funding, rather than just automatically renewing everything.

This 100%
But you know, leftists like to ignore this fact and pretend the problem will magically fix itself

I'm aware of what a sunset provision is. You can apply it to a whole host of programs of low priority and I'm going to support it because in many cases it's going to be ok if Congress fails to act. I don't support it for these programs. And neither do most Americans.
They need stability in these programs and measured change, not periodic manufactured chaos. Nor an automatic 5 year rubber stamp. But if you can't see the debt limit shenanigans or groups of hyperpartisan ideologues driving to the brink of sunset beyond you're burying your head in the sand.

Except there is no stability or measured change, only programs that politicians are unwilling to even consider reforming because it’s a political hot potato.

Didn't say there was. Said is what's the people need. Bernie Sanders is absolutely willing and ready to "fix" the problem. I don't think any of us think he's the right man.

I'm right about much more than that, Salty. Even if you haven't figured it out yet. Or just don't want to admit it.
