Default What is wrong with Posative Voter ID?

Moving on from the recent election and looking forward to 2024 and beyond:

There has been a good bit of controversary over the past few elections. There are "election deniers" on both sides depending on which election is discussed.

So, let's tackle one aspect of this and look at positive voter ID.

For the purposdes of this discussion, pleasse, let us limit the topic to voting in person. Voting by mail is a topic for another thread.

Why is it not a good idea to require that a voter present documents that certify that they are who they say they are when voting in perdon?

Would seem to me that registering as a voter and being matched up to the voter roles is fair and has served us pretty well. There seems to much ado about nothing thanks to the one that will not be mentioned again.

I was asked for a picture ID at the most recent mid-terms. My guess is they were election deniers that were going to make sure everything was above board. So in short you have local officials deciding what is an acceptable form.

Who sets the rules?

If you are a citizen, you should be able to vote...not ordered to jump through hoops to be able to vote.

Because what has been done in the past , present and I would bet the future is look at certain hoops that my voters easily jump through and my opposition's voters are less inclined to do and then implement those hoops as the criteria....when really any citizen should be able to show up and vote. Period.

And another thing...there should be a national holiday to vote. People in urban settings should not have to wait in longer lines than folks in rural counties. Oh and you should get 100 dollars for voting.

Texas requires photo id. most States do and the options are fairly .. liberal. just about anything with a photo will do, years ago when i moved to Texas the company flew me in for a weekend to look for an apartment and check out possible banks and such. when viewing apartments one of the complexes asked for my driver's license to hold while i looked at apartments under the pretext of possible crime since most apartment staff are female. that's what they said anyway. so i left my driver's license in the office and both me and the agent forget about it. so i leave the next day, get to the Austin airport and turn in my rental (which i had been driving without a license on me) and went to board the plane only to realize i didn't have my driver's license. they allowed me to board after showing my Kentucky concealed carry permit.

i'm ok with a day off to vote. to pay people to vote would be completely unconstitutional.

I agree with the Holiday off.

Of course, It is unrealistic. Somebody has to keep lights on and the toilets flushing.

.

And that is part of the point in requiring a picture ID.

Are you a citizen? Are you the citizen hat is registered under this name and registered to vote in this jurisdiction?

None of this should not be offensive to anyone.

I think that's where the ID comes into play so that you can prove that you are a Citizen.

It is offensive to those who are too stupid to follow simple directions laid out by a civilized society.

To answer the question, there is nothing wrong with it. Although Jackie brings up a point but we should just ignore that point and require it anyway. Let them whine.

Have the State prove you're not. That is where the burden of proof should rest.

Poor or unorganized folks should not be penalized because they do not have photo ID.

Like I said earlier...the hoops they make one jump through are almost always in favor of their constituents.

But every citizen should be able to vote. Not jump through hoops and then vote.

Why should the State have the Burden of proof? The State can't get out of their own way as it is, lol.

the States provide many ways to obtain a photo id. you can't exist without one. can't open a bank account. get a job. rent an apartment. own a home. what more do you want? not all States require photo id to vote. Texas does. all States should.

it's insulting to minorities to try to make a case that minorities can't function in modern society when clearly they do, every day.
