Default sen. joe manchin has a yacht!

Joe Manchin’s Houseboat: 5 Things

Written by Andrew Beaujon | Published on February 22, 2021

Susan Collins won’t support Neera Tanden’s appointment as OMB director, Politico reported Monday. Collins, like her fellow US Senator Joe Manchin, has put the Center for American Progress president’s nomination in even more peril and, Politico reports, she and Manchin have chilled on his houseboat, Almost Heaven, which is where he lives in DC and has entertained moderates.
Here are a few facts about the apparent flagship of the centrist Navy:
  1. It’s not a yacht. Republicans tried to paint Manchin as yacht-owning “Washington Joe” during his 2018 reelection campaign. Mmmm, not quite: “The vessel is listed as ‘recreational’ on documents,” PolitiFact wrote in a fact-check. “However, a less confrontational—but similarly accurate—description could be ‘houseboat,’ since it is Manchin’s residence in Washington.”
  2. Its value is relatively modest for a DC residence. Manchin bought the boat at a fire-sale price of $220,000 but insured it for $700,000, PolitiFact reported. Assuming it’s still insured for around that amount, Manchin’s got one heck of a deal: The median sales price for single-family homes in DC passed $1 million last year.
  3. Manchin lives on a boat because he doesn’t like living here. Yawn to performative Washington-hating, but chagrin about where he’s docked seems to be part of Manchin’s shtick: “‘My worst day as governor was better than my best day as senator,’ ” he told GQ in 2018. He fantasized to reporter Jason Zengerle about the possibility of sailing home on Almost Heaven, though he conceded that would take several weeks. (It’s about a 5 1/2-hour car trip.)
  4. Senators like to party on Almost Heaven. Pizza, beer, and merlot are often served on the boat, Time reported in 2014: “Manchin routinely invites Senators from both parties out for evening cruises. ‘Like a Tom Harkin and a Ted Cruz—when would you ever get them together in a room, O.K.?'” Better optics than Cruz’s last vacation, too. Chuck Schumer “thinks it’s his boat,” Manchin told Time.
  5. “Almost Heaven” is a Washington reference—sorry, Joe Manchin. While the song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” is one of West Virginia’s four state songs, its roots are here in DC. The inspiration for Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert’s anthem was a road trip to…Gaithersburg.

Manchin is an expert at talking from both sides of his mouth. Another deep state operator. The Lindsey Graham of the left.

that's not even close to a yacht

its a house boat

eyeballing it, looks like to be around a 40 footer

it would likely capsize much further out than the jetties

and as square and plodding as it looks you might be able to get five knots out of it

and as far as manchin is concerned, its not good to rile him at this point

That's a good description. These Politicians are scum bags. Nancy Pelosi is an Alcoholic, Chuck Schummer is a whore monger who likes to rip off high end prostitutes with his political power and Adam Schiff is gay and likes to beat his gay lovers. On top of that these people think they have the right to tell others what to do and those others are obligated to obey them. They all should be audited regularly.

It’s true. Schiff will be in jail. His antics at the Standard hotel, which is infamous, are repugnant.

Manchin’s daughter, Heather Bresch, is the CEO of Mylan, which manufactures EpiPens. She was behind the huge surge in their prices. There was no new technology behind them. Simply gouging.

I like how Tucker pronounces his name "Joe Mansion".

Some of these Democrats are figuring out that eventually, the Socialist Democrats will come for them.

I had trouble finding a good picture of his boat. the picture posted is "allegedly" his boat.

He had a good steal for this boat he got. He got it for $220,000 and insured it for 700,000. the boat was originally valued at $1.2 million.

its a 65 foot boat.

as for to call it boat or yacht or houseboat, it depends. it has to be 40 foot to be called a yacht. lol.

now to be fair, Manchin is using this boat as a Houseboat, so being a Yacht can be relative.

A friend of a friend invited me to go on his yacht with some other people. He showed me a picture of the 38ft boat that wasn't that impressive. In the 70s it would have been called a nice "cabin cruiser." Never got a good definition of what constitutes a yacht.

manchin had another boat during his time as governor. it was definetly a smaller boat, but he was co-owner tho.

what consitutes a yacht is pretty fluid.

40+ foot is considered a yacht but that is up to the owner on what the owner wants to call it. it really depends on how much $$$ the owner puts in. some have suggested that the term Yacht denotes Luxury boat.

He is 73 years old. If I live to be that age, I sure the fuck would expect to be able to afford a $220K boat. Hell, he is more than 3 decades older than me and I could easily afford to buy that now in cash. And I feel like I'm broke as a joke half of the time because I went to college with a bunch of spoiled rich kids who have summer homes in Cape Cod and/or The Hamptons. I have a summer home too though. It's called my "all season permanent" residence and it requires no travel to get there.

If you think yacht is pretty fluid, get into an argument with a sailor about what is a "boat" vs what is a "ship." It'll make the argument of the difference between a "clip" and a "mag" look simple.
