Already several rioters have been arrested and charged with breaking into the Capitol building. Many of the rioters weren’t wearing masks (the pandemic notwithstanding), making it easier for them to be identified. But thanks to Parler’s own security blunder, many more could soon face an unwelcome knock at the door.

Scraping the publicly available data is not a hack. You can do that with any website, including this one. The hard part is that it takes time and you need somewhere to store all of it.

This is all OpSec 101: Don't post sensitive information online. Best bet is to not engage with social media.

Your computer and phone rat out where you are.
Your photos and videos rat out where they were taken, with what device, including serial number.

Anything that connects to the internet can be used to track you.

Because the topic is related to one of the ways I make my livelihood, I can provide a bit more specificity to the issue at hand than the above tech writers you sourced, with the exception of Bernard Meyer, who is actually quite good, but I've been in the industry longer than him.

My post was in no way contrary to your initial post, and I have a pretty proven track record on this board of being anti-social media. In fact, this site is about as close as I get to it.

Just because you and I regularly disagree on things, does not mean I am always trying to spring from the bushes to piss on your parade. There are other people on this board I clash opinions with as well, and sometimes find agreement with. I believe I did so with PFunk earlier this week.
