Default Veterans Day 20/20

A look back? If you don't, you're doomed to repeat any mistakes.

Whatever your leaning, when you wear the uniform, we're all brothers and sisters. I'll spare my fierce rhetoric and just start with this:

Add your favorite military clips.

Or stories . . . or whatever. I love you.

What does this have to do with the TV show 20/20?

Use some Higher Order Thinking Skills sailor. Or are you being funny? If so, it didn't work. If not, read the title, then read the first sentence and see if you can tell me what figure of speech I am referring to. Sir!

Funny is a hard business but you should really be chastising your buddy Molle for violating the spirit of the post.

Adding this on afterwards, I'm not sure what that one clip has to do with anything other than Alan Alda is in it. As for as Alda, he did serve but I'm sure that others did more if this is about actors and their service;
Van Johnson-Navy intelligence
James Stewart-B24 pilot and squadron commander
Clark Gable-tail gunner on a B17
Charles Durning-lost a piece of finger on Omaha beach
Audie Murphy-well, what can you say about the most decorated American soldier of World War II?
Neville Brand- possibly the second most decorated American soldier of World War II

The list goes on but lately this is not the case. Sadly, people today don't even know who these people were or what they did.

Great Uncle, you say? That's amazing.

This is an open forum. I can ask, but I'd be a hypocrite if I asked to keep "l'esprit de corp" through the opening post. Besides, I'm going to go from silly to serious here too. Just keep the theme. Remember. Look back.

He survived that war and returned to Kansas to teach history.

It was taboo to discuss, but as the story goes - my father returned from Southeast Asia only to die at the hands of uncle LEO just before or shortly after I took my first breath. This from a newspaper clipping long held in the China cabinet. Long lost now, and never confirmed. I'm tearing up as I type. Pretty damn sure alcohol was involved. As it is now.

My family has been lucky. We've marched off to every war since the Revolution including things like the Black Hawk War and the Mexican-American war. With the exception of one Captain killed by federals at Wilson Creek in the Civil War, we have always come home.

This is turning into a weird tête-à-tête. The last clip ties in Alan Alda and the last person in that scene - it was "Charles" in MASH. Check out the second clip again. Also, I thought it was funny how the coastal elites had a son on the opposite end of the political spectrum. It's a musical. You would probably like it. (Damn! Didn't mean to insinuate anything there.) Just that it's funny. I'm writing off the cuff.

One brother in the Army when I was in elementary. Not exactly a born-again but married and living a humble life. Another in the Navy when I made it to middle school. Now a self-described Republican doing somewhat well.

Me? Off I went into the wild blue yonder. Just taking life at it comes. So to speak. As I messaged another member of this board who chimes in time-to-time - we are polar opposites on the political spectrum, but ours' is a proud nation. We will, because we always do, get through tough times like these.
