Qualified immunity does not give a police officer carte blanche to abuse suspects. The police officer can be fired and prosecuted as we have seen recently and the department he works for, the city he works for can be sued, you just can't sue the officer for the reason I just stated.
Every single Tom, Dick and Harriet would sue every single cop that arrested them and the lawyers lining up to take the case would be a mile long and the cop would go bankrupt defending him or herself. That is the reason for qualified immunity because with out it, there would be nobody dumb enough to take the job. I don't know why anybody would want the job now even with immunity from being sued but a damn good chance you are not going to make 20 years dealing with the worst society has to offer.

Yeah, America is lawsuit happy. Trump in his business dealings was no exception. The biggest contributors to the Democratic Party are probably plantiff's attorneys, and they don't like any restrictions on their ability to sue because it's bad for business.
Anyway, qualified immunity does make a lot of sense. As to the matter at hand, maybe better training is part of the answer. It seems like police are taught to be overaggressive -- manhandling offenders and sending SWAT teams in to arrest people who aren't likely to be violent for example. A buddy was recently mistakenly arrested and got thrown up against a wall hard and cuffed, even though he wasn't a threat to anyone.

Of course there are some bad cops but try and put yourself in their shoes in a city like Chicago with a massive amount of crime and you are seeing the same guys back on the street committing the same crimes over and over again. And while I'm sure that there are cops who treat people rough who don't deserve it, I still believe and have seen with my own eyes, people who resist arrest and I think those are the majority of the people that end up getting rough treatment, the average cop will not assume he needs to put hands on you for no reason. We saw what happened in the Wendy's incident. Cop was treating the guy with due respect until it came time to put the cuffs on and since this guy was already on parole, he didn't want to go back to prison and decided to fight.
If your friend was "mistakenly" arrested, the cops might have thought they had somebody that just assaulted somebody and did the arrest with a preconceived idea about who they were dealing with or perhaps your friend isn't telling you the whole story and resisted just a bit demanding to know why he was being arrested which is almost certainly going to get one rougher treatment.
I believe that 9 out of 10 times, if you keep your mouth shut, do what the cop asks you to do, you will not get roughed up. Become belligerent, resist by pulling away and I guarantee you will get roughed up.
Stop resisting arrest and 9 out of 10 times, there will be no rough treatment.
I forget the city right now but I think it was yesterday that 2 cops were called to a domestic dispute and were shot and killed before they could ever draw their weapons. Now imagine or as the Progressives have now been programmed to say "re-imagine policing" and a couple of unarmed social workers were sent because it was a non violent domestic dispute call and they are now dead. Think anybody will start re-thinking about sending social workers out on domestic dispute calls?

Take a look at Hankering's links and mine in this thread and you'll see cops kill about 20X more civilians annually than offenders kill cops. Typically around 50 policemen are killed annually. Yeah, that's 50 more than we'd like to see, but it's no epidemic, like coronavirus or whatever.
As to the second point above, re-imagined policing, agreed. America is armed to the teeth. We'll never be able to police like Australia or Britain, and cops must have guns.

You obviously know nothing about SWAT. SWAT or as some Departments call it SRT (Special Response Team) are highly trained Officers with an average age of 32 years old and better than five years experience. They respond to extreme situations the average street cop isn't trained and equipped to handle such as barricaded armed felons, Bomb threats, terrorist threats, ect. Every call up they go on has high probability for violence and gunfire exchange. SWAT is a big expense for any department in terms of training, equipment they aren't going to be utilized for bullshit.

A problem is that Black Live Matter is treated as "a movement" by the MSM. The reality is that it's an organization that protects its brand. The organization is being protected by politicians mainly and could direct its soldiers to basically do anything they want. There is no examination of the org or people who make up the org. The movement other than black people has facists white people. They don't get arrested or criticized.
Long story short, until the leaders of the BLM movement are arrested or at least criticized by the MSM...which happened the last time...we're going to have to put up with it.

My point wasn't that there is an epidemic of police being shot. My point was that sending social workers to a domestic dispute is a stupid idea and could be dangerous.
I also believe if we are on the topic of numbers, more Blacks are killed by other Blacks, far, far more than killed by cops or Whites. You would think that listening to MSM and BLM.
I believe that while Black males from 14 to 40 ( approx. numbers ) make up about 6 to 7% of the population, they commit close to, if not more violent crime than all other racial categories combined. At the very least we can state as fact that Black males commit violent crimes far in excess of their ratio to population. Now, we could debate till the cows come home why this is so, poverty, fatherless homes, less chance at good paying jobs etc. etc. but facts are facts.
If anybody can dispute that, please show me the numbers. I can be convinced "if" I am proven wrong. Just rarely happens.

HF - look at it this way - the DPST's alrady have made the "Defund-disarm-Disband" the Police a platform plank. Let's see them shut down the Secret Service protective details as well - and have the newly elected Biden and radical VP be consistent with how they treat the people.
Send socials workers to carjacking, gunshots fiassaults, robberies, and murders - to ask suspects - "How does that make you feel???" After several dozen are murderd, assaulted, raped, and robbed by criminals and OBLM terrorists - social workers won't work the jobs.
DPST cities will be left with no Crime Control - with the prisons emptied of all blacks, bail a thing of the past, and no cops to arrest and start prosecutions.
People in those cities will remember - if there is ever another free election in America - following a biden - radical VP win.
let the Marxist revolutionaries think they have the power to destroy the cities and institute marxist Socialism.
Civil War will set them down where they should be - in graves.
Never, Ever Give Up Your weapons. !!!!

Wildlife Photographer Captures a Rare Black Panther Roaming in the Jungles of India

“Today I am extremely fortunate to be making a film on him for Nat Geo WILD as well as writing an extensive research paper.” In one image, Jung manages to capture the moment the panther looks directly into the lens, revealing its intense stare.
