I think the closest to that scenario is Calvin Coolidge. He took over after Harding died in office for the remainder of harding's term. ran for 1 term and did not run for the 2nd term despite pleas from supporters.

Ford was sworn in the 2nd half of Nixon's 2nd term, basically year 3 as was Calvin.

if Obama followed Ford's route, the presidential term limit amendment still applies assuming the interpretation of the amendment stays at 2 term only. Obama serves 2 years only or the remainer of biden's term.

however, if the interpretation says a limit of 2 consecutive terms only, then its possible obama can serve another 4 years+2 (6 years) if biden steps down in year 1 or year 2.

He could have run twice more and if elected both tries, he would have been president for almost 12 years.

theoretically, they get 10 years as president. the catch here is the death or resignation has to occur in the year 3 & 4 of a single 4 year term.

The natural inclination would be to assume it was more media bias but....


My stepmother was there. There were a total of 4 entry points. Only one entry point was congested and that was due to about 200 protesters in the area (and likely where the above image was taken). Trump cancelled his outside speech because there wasn't a crowd to speak to. According to her (and she's a big Trump fan) there was maybe half the capacity of the venue at the event. In her eyes, it was a good thing as maybe people were starting to listen and socially distance. There were no issues with screeners or getting screened to get into the venue for the ticket holders.
