Here's something the city or county could do: Declare bankruptcy. Seems a lot of cities have done it in the past to get rid of pension issues.

Quote:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday he favors allowing states struggling with high public employee pension costs amid the burdens of the pandemic response to declare bankruptcy rather than giving them a federal bailout.

“I would certainly be in favor of allowing states to use the bankruptcy route,” he said Wednesday in a response to a question on the syndicated Hugh Hewitt radio show. “It’s saved some cities, and there’s no good reason for it not to be available.”

The host cited California, Illinois and Connecticut as states that had given too much to public employee unions, and McConnell said he was reluctant to take on more debt for any rescue.

The backstory? You claim to be informed and you don't know about this?

Maybe that's because CNN isn't reporting it.

HPOU president Joe Grimaldi(who I don't happen to care for very much) issued a statement that HPO will not be enforcing this unconstitutional intrusion and he sent a letter to Ken Paxton asking for a ruling on it's legality.

It's an end run to frustrate the efforts of the governor to get the states economy back up. Same thing Mayors are doing to fellow Republican Brian Kemp in Georgia and the media including some at Fox are crucifying him for his decision to let people go back to work and open their businesses IF THEY WANT TO. If allowed to stand this order by Hidalgo would essentially stop that from happening here.
On the other hand Gavin Newsom in CA is getting praised for saying city and county officials have no authority to issue orders of their own telling people they don't have to follow the state mandated stay at home orders.

I'll just drop this here in case no one is paying attention:

60 million dollars! Like I always say, Follow the money

Some of these people need to be held criminally liable for waste and abuse...and for screaming "FIRE" in a crowded theater.

The Dallas County Judge was making stupid decisions like this. They made him report to a "board of trustees." Time we do the same.

Thanks Kitler!

That has to be one of the stupidest statement I've heard for you and I've heard nothing but stupid statement but I think this takes the prize!! The HUGE revenue generators of the country have been shutdown by the gumment...now they have to borrow TRILLIONS more and go deeper into debt. I don't expect you to understand that.

Where the fuck do you think the TRILLIONS in money the gumment just threw at this problem they created came from?? It's adding to the trillions already owed and the children today will be strapped with a tax liability (more taken from their earnings) they will NEVER be able to get out from under.

The gumment doesn't generate ANY revenue they take it from the people that DO GENERATE REVENUE!! The gumment doesn't generate anything but chaos and fear from their stupidity.

Whatever monies people get from this UNCONSTITUTIONAL lockdown has to be paid back BY THE PEOPLE WHO GET THE MONIES!! This is the worst fucked up financial decision the gumment has ever made...shutting down national commerce and going into TRILLIONS more in debt!!

i want to reopen the economy as much as anyone. in my small business, i'm making half of what i was before covid19, and i consider myself to be one of the lucky ones. the question is, how do you do that without killing 100s of thousands of people and overwhelming/destroying our health care system at the same time? any bright ideas that you didn't learn from State TV?
That is TYPICAL deflection you are famous for!!
WTF does Trump and FOX have to do with the FACTS??
MILLIONS of people are stopped from providing for their family and are on the brink of financial ruin and (supposed...45,000 deaths) where the fuck are you getting 100s of thousands of people...CNN,PMSNBC?? What does that have to do with the nonsense you're spewing here??
That just shows your lack of a cogent answer to the FACTS!!

you're not gonna believe this bareback, but i agree with most of what you said.

you say the lockdown is unconstitutional. can you elaborate, citing the text of the Constitution and/or governing Supreme Court cases that haven't been overruled? thanks.

for starters, let me get this out of the way. i have 2 tvs (fancy i guess lol) but they are boxed up in my attic. i haven't watched tv in like 5 years. so lets get that out of the way. rachel maddow is apparently a trump buster on msnbc, but i've seen like 1 of her podcasts. amy goodman's democracy now (carried on 90.1 here in houston) is a badass radio show. i already explained in another thread that i don't read anything to find out what to think; i'm pretty good at that. i read to become informed. boardman misunderstood that to mean i always want to be informed about everything. that's not correct. there are some topics that i could care less about. i could give 2 fucks about keeping up with the kardashians latest and greatest. they're a bunch of clowns.

how many people do you know who are strongly libertarian, fiscally conservative, (trump was a basket case fiscally from day 1. read my previous post on the deficit for the last 4 presidents. republicans suck fiscally. facts.), socially liberal who think global warming is going to wreck our planet, think we should never buy one more piece of garbage from china, think Reagan did some great things, and think we should rebuild american manufacturing immediately?

fuck. this is another thread. if you want to continue this discussion, start another thread. i'll participate but if you go back to the ad hominem attacks and making the thread about me, i'm gonna put you on ignore. i dont have time or patience for that bs. if you want to troll, you have a whole thread just for that. be my guest. that's what it's there for.

one final point. you think we should go back to business as usual? ok make that case. lets watch what happens in the states that do that. i figure it's a good exercise in the Darwin awards. some people are too dumb not to jump off a cliff just because it's there and will be fun for about 8 seconds... those clowns in Florida playing volleyball deserve to be last in the quieu for coronavirus treatment. that's a republican solution, and i'm in agreement. #Floridamorons..

You wouldn't know anything about the suffering of the millions of struggling people because of this gumment overreach that has shutdown their means of income and has the LSM has the nerve to tell them they are inciting violence by exercising their constitutional rights to assemble
60 to 80 thousand people die from the yearly flu and this hysteria with 45,000 deaths that are questionable as to the exact cause of all these deaths and you act like chicken little "the sky is falling...get back to your never ending Trump trashing which occupies your thoughts 24/7.

WTF do you know about civil liberties..

The right's given to us by the constitution are inalienable and only an ammendment can change that and it isn't easy as you "think" it is...I don't expect you to understand that.

These are unprecedented burdens on civil liberties right now. You know, the idea that you have to stay in your house is disturbingly close to house arrest. We’re looking carefully at a number of these rules being put into place.

^^bareback, not to be mean or anything, but i spent 3 years in law school, several years in practice, plus several years in academia. go to law school and we can revisit the issue when you finish your legal training. there are 2 good schools here and 1 that i wouldn't recommend unless as an absolute last resort. i don't really have any more to say on the topic. sorry i can't be more helpful.

hope you stay safe, and yes-unlike trump who does not feel empathy for people who are suffering-i really do feel terrible about everyone who has lost their jobs. it's like a poker game where you're dealt a crappy hand and you're short-stacked; there aren't really any options that are good. it just comes down to what's the best way to play your shitty hand. that's where we're at. we agree to disagree on what's the best way to play the shitty hand.

i'm not happy about the shutdown, but i don't want to see hundreds of thousands of Texans dying either. the expert analyses i've read from people who have studied this stuff indicate that our hand is really really shitty. i'm inclined to believe them over trump any day of the week. i don't think trump has the american people's interest in mind; he just wants to get reelected. if more people will die following his rec, tbh, i dont think he really cares one way or the other. (if you want to dig, research the sociopath personality disorder. i never knew why my old man-he was a bigshot trial lawyer-was such an asshole. when i researched the sociopath personality disorder, it all clicked.) that's just my opinion, but i dont want to argue about it any more. stay safe and healthy sir.

sounds good bareback.

one small clarification. trump has narcissistic sociopathic disorder, not just sociopath disorder. if you read the elements of the disorder, you will literally fall over laughing. it is exactly what trump is. he's clinical, and he has the launch codes and 57 million twitter followers, give or take. we have Captain Ahab +++ at the helm, if Ahab had been a narcissist as well as obsessed. Trump's obsession is looking good to the world. that's why he hates the press calling him out on his bullshit.
