Well then you sort of missed the point. The Rat is an opportunist his survival is contingent upon his ability to obtain food that is readily available, so he steals. The Cat is a natural hunter his survival is contingent upon his ability to catch prey. The Cat doesn't kill the Rat so much because he steals, he kills the Rat because that's what he does to survive.
