If he’s talking about Simmons, he was drafted in 2016, which means he’s starting his third year. Not a rookie. Far from it. He’ll-lay the upcoming season on the last year of his four year rooking deal, and his extension will kick in in the 2020 season. Philadelphia now has most of its young core locked up for a few years and don’t have to worry about losing them in free agency fir a while. Smart move.

Whomever he is, good player or not, why are the hell are we giving people this kind of money to play a goddamn game?
And please. Spare me the 'he gets what someone's willing to pay him' and all that "worth" bullshit. That's no justification. They're just playing fucking basketball (other sports, too).
I could watch 12-year olds play, and be entertained. How did we get to the point where we give millions of dollars to people who don't shit for society, but balk at giving a janitor $20 an hour?
This MF 'bout to make 35 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR. For what. Playing a goddamn game.
Call me a hater. I don't give a shit. But give me a better reason that the CLICHED shit about 'worth' and 'what people want to see'.

Start training and go make millions, you've never watched a professional sporting event? Ever been to any game?

I have been to live sporting events. What it ultimately ends up being is a waste of money.

The owners make a ton of money off these guys in sports. I like seeing the players get a piece of the pie as well. They're the product that sells and they earned it.
Ben Simmons is not even close to his prime yet at 23 years old (in a few days). He'll get there. He's worth his $170M as far as his future investment to the hedge fund owners of the Sixers. If he wasn't, those billionaire owners would not have paid him that because they want their ROI and then some. He will more than pay for himself through the entire duration of his contract with their team. Signing him to that contract was simply a logical business decision for those billionaire owners.
If the kid ever gets a jump shot, he will be lethal to the extent that may have never been seen before. That's a big if though with his jumper. That's one ugly shot and he has no confidence in it.

It amazes me how many professional NBA players have such poor fundamentals and can’t do the most common things like shoot a jump shot or make a free throw...Sweet Jesus, it’s not hard and they have probably been playing basketball since they were 7 years old!!!
Fuck I think every NBA player should hit at least 70% of their free throws...When I started Middle School ball in the 7th grade, I had a horrible shot and finally one of the coaches took me aside and taught me shooting fundamentals- 1) Focus on the front or back part of the rim, one or the other, everytime, don’t follow the arc of the ball even after it’s been released because your eyes may eventually start cheating a little too soon, effecting your shot. 2) Learn to shoot one-handed until you get the form down, this will force your shooting elbow to stay in and not chicken wing out and allow for #3 3) The straight wrist snap follow through and holding it after the shot is released 4) Finally, on free throws, make your preshot routine short, thinking in any sport gets you in trouble, usually over thinking, so when that referee hands you the ball, eye the rim and shoot, just like you do on a jump shot
I went from shooting 40% free throws in the 7th grade to 80% in the 8th
I see these guys like Ben Simmons, Lonzo Ball who can’t make jumpers and have HORRIBLE TECHNIQUE!! Ben Simmons (and I am a fan of his since his LSU days) won’t even attempt one now hardly and someone like Shaq who couldn’t make 50% of his free throws (and he’s not the only one) and I think to how long they have been playing...Giannis of Milwaukee is a joke right now to me, Mother fucker won the MVP award and the son-of-a-bitch can’t hit a jumper either. They ripped James Harden off Big Time with that one!!

Anyone who's playing will affect the game. Being in the NBA should mean you're pretty damn good at MOST things about the game. Some of these fuckers are just tall people with minimum athleticism. It doesn't take much effort to dunk when you're 6'9". He did nothing to make himself 6'9". He was born that way. Genetics lottery winner, which in modern times, now translates into life lottery.
Again, I can be entertained watching kids do this shit, for free. I gives a damn about watching grown men do it and make millions and never work a REAL job.

Don't make a fool of yourself thinking everyone tall can affect a NBA game, I'll bet you couldn't stop a older retired player like Nate Robinson from getting to the basket who I'm sure a smaller than you at 5′ 9″ and that's being generous. These guys put in many hours in the gym to get to that level, I'm sure you can appreciate the hard work

Please. I would've had in Nate in handcuffs...when he was young.
Everybody puts in 'many hours' in the gym. Hell, when I was young, that's all we did...damn near every day, all year round. And who wouldn't put in crazy hours if they could make $25-30M a year.
These sports salaries insult every person walking the Earth, who isn't already making 6-7 figures. It's completely gotten out of hand.
Just think how bad it's going to be in, say, 10 years. Might have a billion dollar athlete by 2030...yet we can't find the money to raise minimum wage.
FOHWTB!!

I disagree. I find C-Suite compensation at Fortune 500 companies insulting. There is nothing reasonable about a CEO making a 1000 times more than the average wage of his or her employees because that CEO has the authority to manipulate the stock price with buybacks, stock splits, dividends, etc. And don't even get me started on these hedge fund and private equity CEOs' compensation who are barely even regulated compared to public companies so they can pay themselves whatever the fuck they want with minimal pushback.
Athletes getting paid a bag does not bother me in the least. I loved playing sports growing up but I was not born with their extraordinary gifts to make it a career. Good for them is the way I look at it.

Yeah, that little fucker tore up my Lakers in the finals a few years ago when he was playing for the Celtics. If Randall can play better defense than D-Fish and Kobe, he's been in the wrong profession and should have been in the NBA back then as a defensive specialist.
When that little man got red hot (which was somewhat rare) in his prime, you couldn't do shit with him because he was a gunner who just didn't give a fuck about volume shooting.
