Got anything else regarding why you don't like Austin and prefer S.A.?

Oh this reminds me -- the only time I came close to be a lesbian is when I dated a liberal guy down here in Austin.......didn't last long...

That is not how you explained the situation. You said multiple sheets protesting the removal of the trees were hung out of windows. Nothing more.

In the late 90's I was paying about $1200 a month for a loft apartment due to the 98% occupancy rate and it was the only thing I could get into in a reasonable amount of time. The lefty types can be unbearable. The city won't build up new roads so the traffic sucks big fat donkey dicks. And people keep flocking there to experience it's wonderful natural environments which in turn destroys the very same environments due to overpopulating the area. The same places that used to be fun to go to and pretty to look at are not. Hell, you have to get reservations to go to Hamilton Pool now.

I don't disagree with you. Housing is high in the Austin area because so many people are moving here so quickly. Houses that are on the market sell in days. I can't say it is overpriced any more than homes in the other major Texas cities though. I have a family member living in central Houston and is paying $4500 a month for a 2 bedroom plus den apartment. And the road situation during commuting hours is horrendous.
Comments well taken!

Rather than make anecdotal blanket statements about 50% of the country, why not accept there is a continuum of folks in every issue including the environment. Tree huggers like you who wish to protect the environment at all costs to peoples jobs, homes and livelihood...to those that advocate clear cutting the Earths rainforests. Truth is, most people live where I live. A balance of both...cut trees for development...look for alternatives to killing salamanders even if it costs more...but if a million people benefit from a project at the expense of a salamander....so be it.
|
That is why I limited my statement by saying "so many". No, I do not want to protect the environment at "all costs". I have no idea what the outcome of the environmental impact studies on the Golden Cheeked Warbler and the salamander turned out. All I will say is I respect the right of people to care about such things. If people choose not to live in Austin due to such factors, fine. My decision to move to Austin was not based on such factors.

How does hanging 3 sheets convey they couldn't accept that they had no say on land they didn't own? What did they do that was unreasonable? That's your example? What ever you say. No delay to your project. No extra paper work. No extra costs. No protests other than sheets. That's the one of a million examples of bullshit you remember

this property was located by a greenbelt - otherwise, known as environmentally protected. No problem, we will work with it. One of the projects was installing sidewalks. To do this we had to remove some trees - which we were going to replace. So we cut down the trees one day and the next day -
some people hung a sheet out their window on which was spray painted "tree killers." I'm talking about not one sheet but 3. These people could not accept the fact that they did not own the property and had no say in what we wanted to construct yet they refused to listen to reason in that we were replacing the trees. Now, I rehabbed other properties in New Orleans, St. Louis,Mo, other Texas cities and I never encountered the bullshit as I did in Austin. And this is but one of a million examples.
Anyway, if you have not encountered this bullshit in Austin - then you are lucky.

You don't live in Austin either.
Why does that fact mean anything when you talk about speedy but not you?
You weren't born in Houston. You moved there. You were supposedly born in Austin. By your definition, you're a carpetbagger too.
Houston has every "problem" Austin does plus it is very susceptible to flooding and being on the coast it takes the full brunt of hurricanes.
Not going to claim you've been drinking. That would give you an excuse for the frequent nonsense you post.
That question was for Ellen.
Who happens to be a woman in Austin. A woman who judges a city by a few people getting pissed some trees were cut down. She offered her side of the story but nothing from the other side
You claim to know a lot about what other men think but you don't know how to be a man.
Good thing you don't live here since you dislike it so much.

A substantial contributor to the Austin GDP is the State government and the magnificent University of Texas. The people who live there benefit greatly from that.
Naturally, all that easy money from the government makes some people think they are special.

In 2017, GDP in Austin was 10.8% for Government and 5.6% for education and health services. Those percentages for all large metro areas were 11.8% for government and 8.5 for education and health services.
In other words, Austin gets less of its GDP from the 2 areas you mentioned than the average large metro area.
Since you have no clue why someone from Austin might feel special, you make stuff up.
Because you won't ask.
And naturally you forget why we are even discussing this.
Because another know-nothing claimed Austin is a leach.
The uneducated base never ceases to amaze me.

I didn't make up anything and you didn't disprove anything I said.
Since 10.8% + 5.6% = 16.4% using your figures, I maintain it is a substantial contributor to the GDP of the area, and the inhabitants of the area greatly benefit from that.
If the "Forty Acres" were just another neighborhood, the GDP of Austin would be considerably lower - the positive impact of a major university on the economics of an area are incredible.
Being the capital city brings in many private and non profit organizations to do business with the government - that is so obvious that no one with much sense could deny it.
So, no big surprise, you just embarrassed yourself again. (You also demonstrated your poor education with multiple grammatical errors - I hope you didn't attend the University of Texas - that would be a stain upon that great institution to have a person like you associated with it)

4500 a month for a small apartment? Thats highway robbery. Apart from the housing issues, I think, I could live in Austin.

Take away the Tax money that supports the "economy"!
That's what SocialistLiberals do .... count other people's money as something THEY generated .... collecting taxes and spending it is not a good economy. If the state agencies/government wasn't there it would be a flashing yellow light with a an off ramp and an on ramp for the FREEWAY!

He doesn't discuss the multiplier effect which is substantial in a capital city owing to all the government agencies. He is not a very smart person.
