I have 4400 watts of photovoltaic panels. That is enough power to allow us [during daylight, from 8am to 4pm] to operate every home appliance that we have. The lifestyle changes happen when the sun is not out. Then we are restricted to how much amperage we have in our battery-bank.

Last year, we got a plug-in hybrid Prius sedan. We charge it from our solar power system.

Like ethanol?

I don't see how you can use solar cells in Houston. The pollen is so thick at various times of year, you'd be washing them off constantly.

Even without the tax credits, you still get the depreciation.

After infrastructure, food and vet bills, to give you 1/28th of a watt of power?

It would take thousands of hamsters to power a house.
That still doesn't explain WTF's hamster ranch.
