Why the hell do you think they now label themselves "progressive"...or "democratic socialist"...as some how that is different then just plain socialist!
Again, Democrats run the gamut from far left to barely left of center. Obama was in office for 8 years and did little to move this country to the left. You are right in saying that extreme socialist ideology has never won a Presidential election. Biden is nowhere near an extreme socialist ideology. Sanders is close and I do not "feel the Bern" as the saying goes. You asked which Democrats I thought could beat Trump and those 3 head my list. Does not necessarily mean I support them all.

If you want to split hairs, Clinton was the worst offender of the two.

For example, google Harris and Trump. Of the 3 general election polls, Harris won 2, Trump won one.

Do the same for Biden. There have been 3 polls, for which Biden has winning margins of 7 to 12 percentage points.

For Sanders versus Trump, there have been 6 polls, and Sanders won all with margins of 4 to 15 percentage points.

I reckon your OPINION is well supported by the polls, at least for Biden and Sanders.

bb1961, it gives me no great joy to say this. Sanders scares the shit out of me, and the fact that he's leading Trump by an average of 10.4 percentage points scares me even more.

I find this statement to of significant importance:

"Let us end by remembering — and I cannot emphasize this enough — how long we have to go. Not only in news cycles and Twitter rants, but for the economy. We are just entering the period that will likely prove decisive in how American voters evaluate Trump at the end of his term. The 2020 campaign is, in every meaningful sense, only just beginning."

Very interesting article in its entirety. But VOX is left-leaning.
