I worked in Galveston in the late 80's. It is, or was a fun place for MG.
I stayed in a new motel right next to the Ferry. It is probably a dump now.
But the Strand area was a blast. The hotel I stayed at during MG didn't care about noise. Talk about hard to get up and go to work the next day.
I normally stayed at a CondoHotel on the seawall. During MG, they prices shot up more than my per diem.

It's still pretty fun. There's parades going on all weekend and next weekend the Mystic Knights of Aquarius parade today at lunch was great.
