We are both making guesses. But my guesses make a lot more sense.
For starters, I don't have to assume anything way out of the ordinary, like retiring at age 53 or 55. I assume that an educated man like him knows he could easily make it to age 85 and therefore outlive his money. So there is very little chance he will be retiring before age 65. I note his father practiced medicine for over 40 years, so I'm pretty sure the son will be practicing at least 30 years. The modern trend (at least among the smarter people) is to retire later not earlier, especially since everyone's 401k plans got hammered in the last 5 years. The only people NOT planning on doing that are living in France or Greece. And, boy, are they in for a surprise.
I also don't have to assume he is going to find a buyer for his unique "cash only" business. That's another long shot.
