As a KATRINA evacuee, I can tell you your FEMA # will be the most important # you need to remember other than your SS.#
We evacuated to FW. during the "05 storm, and I can tell you it may take forever to reach a FEMA rep. via phone, because so many people are calling 1-800- 621-3362
Once you have this # established, call all of your insurance companies to file a claim for your vehicle, house/and or apt. for all of your losses.
There will be many lines to stand in, to receive help, but you will be so glad you did, because that is what THE ASSISTANCE is there for. For the needy.
A lot of people are proud, but in this time of disaster, TAKE IT.
You will get more help than this Hooker board will offer.
ALSO, FEMA, can and WILL help you get into a new place to live. they paid my apt. rent for 1 year for me.
Also if you have a REAL WORLD JOB, you WILL qualify for HURRICANE unemployment. YES YOU WILL QUALIFY IF YOU WORK A RWJ.
Also YOU AND ALL IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD, WILL qualify for FOOD STAMPS, regardless of what you earn on your RWJ. We got it for 3 months. After that you have to qualify to keep receiving the food stamp benefits.
We got a temporary Texas resident badge to wear, so they could see we were evacuees.

AND BTW THE RED CROSS IS IFFY AT BEST FOR HELP. IJS DON'T COUNT ON THEM AND BE DISAPPOINTED.
