It was obvious that they didn't enlist to "serve their nation" if that meant there was any possibility that they might have to fulfill a genuine military mission that might mean they were actually going to be shot at. It was pathetic how may queer-rats abandoned the service as this nation shifted from a peace time footing to a war time footing.
I wonder how many were straight guys lying out their ass to get out? Hmmmmmmm.

It doesn't!

Even during the draft in the 60's/70's there were medical/psych rejections ... that kept folks out of the service or limited the service activities in which they could be involved.

Oh, the desegregation of the services is not relevant to this issue.....because Black people served in the military since the Civil War....and probably before then in this country.

Many fought in Washington's command against the British during the American Revolution.

I don't know. That is an issue. I won't argue that.

My understanding, however, is that their are transgendered people in the military now. They may not be in the process of changing their bodies to match their gender ID. Maybe the hormone therapy isn't the big issue we would think it to be.

We are not talking about hypotheticals. There are currently members of the military who are openly transgendered.

the government can make a contract to accommodate the issue of cost. Screw re-enlistment. Come up with the number of years of service that would be fair and have them sign the contract for a longer service term from the get-go.

So suspendending the issues of money and ability to serve, do you have any other issues?

You're delusional if you imagine that most of these individuals will "serve honorably" after they've been given what they want up front. I've witnessed how people have purposefully put on nearly 100 lbs and/or continuously fail APFT tests in order to get discharged when they are no longer "happy". It's a lose-lose situation with people who are enlisting for the wrong reasons, and Chelsea Manning is a perfect example of someone enlisting for the wrong reasons. Once s/he was "unhappy", s/he did his/her level best to fuck things up so s/he'd get kicked out before his/her term of service was completed.

I've a good friend, a retired doctor

he now works part time under contract to the military giving physicals to and screening kids trying to get into the military

its more than what you might think of as a physical

there are dexterity tests, body reviews, a mental assessment, background and drug reviews

if someone cant look at you in the eye

seems fishy

has unexplained scars, many kids cut themselves, at the moment that's still seen as a mental condition

too many tattoos

and after he's through, his boss reviews them as well

many time the answer is no thanks

A man or a women can go through all the gender reassignment surgeries they want and take all the hormones they want to change their gender. But at the end of the day their gender will not change biologically because chromosomes are what determines gender and you can't change that. Men and women both have Testosterone and Estrogen. Men have considerably more Test which is responsible for their secondary sex characteristics and women have considerably more Estrogen which is responsible for their secondary sex characteristics. The alteration of either of these hormones will not affect chromosomes. An athlete who abuses PEDs and develops gynecomastia ( Bitch tits), isn't turning into a women he's just simply experiencing a hormonal shut down of his natural Test production and a spike in his Estrogen but his chromosomes are still male. Now people may argue, "It's what's in their brain and how they feel and identify themselves as" That is absolutely true and that is where the problem is. It's called brain damage. Our thoughts and feelings come from the brain and the areas of the brain that are responsible for the psyche and how we view ourselves and the world around us is dysfunctional. Now as far as Transgenders going into the Military, I say let them but they will serve according to their chromosomal blueprint and can act out their delusions as either a man or a women when on R&R.

It doesn't. In fact the military is not an show not be an equal opportunity employer.

However, many medical conditions do affect a person's ability to perform physically or mentally and get waivers all the time. I don't even believe transgendered people need to apply for waivers currently.

That's a separate issue that exists and will continue to exist regardless of the issue we are debating. Easily worked around, though. If you get discharged prior to fulfilling your commitment do you get the benefit from the G.I bill? Perhaps they make it a benefit that is only good after your first commitment has ended.

It seriously sounds like the biggest problem is that some people think it's icky & gross.

If you go to a military academy and do not complete it and drop out. You are in the hook for like 30k per year of school you did complete.

"A separate issue" that is "easily worked around" by returning to the pre-Odumbo military enlistment standards! And the number of student loans in default and never collected is notoriously outrageous; so, your so-called solution is complete and utter bullshit.

I know two people who've gotten out of the army and marines within the last 3 years. They say the US military gives one free elective surgery a year as kind of a recruiting tool. You can get a nose job, boob job, LASIK, etc. My guess is that is how Manning got his pee pee chopped off.

They should offer brain transplants. Lots of morons in this forum could use one.
