...For a Hobbyist to contact a Provider through Facebook without prior consent from the provider to do so?

This is why I am asking:

I had a guy contact me tonight through my personal Facebook profile. He said I had seen him before, but after looking through my calendar I couldn't find him anywhere.

I remember someone booking and being a NSNC that I later found out had been in a wreck on his way to my incall location. Which he mentioned, but the details kept changing in the conversation.

Then he started asking about the donation. Everyone who has ever seen me (and several who haven't) knows I never discuss donations. It is just not how I do business.

It all felt really creepy and I ended up blocking him. I just curious if anyone else has had this happen.

I had a guy find me on Facebook & message me asking me why I wouldn't see him anymore & even friend request me! I stopped seeing him because he made me uncomfortable, so I'm assuming he did some real deep research to find me on social media, we had no mutual friends. I ended up deactivating that account & making a new one with a different name (I blocked him on the new account of course). Also, make sure to set your Facebook up to completely private, you have to do that on a computer, your phone won't let you do it.

I've had several guys pop up in my "Suggested Friends" because I saved their number, which also happens to be the number they have saved in FB. DON'T SO THAT! Get a different number! And no, it's not OK to randomly contact someone from the hobby on any social media they pop up on. Oy vey!

Sooooo not cool. I've had a few providers pop up on my friend suggestions, but I'd never contact them that way. Not discreet for either of us. That sounds so much like stalker behavior.

As long as I'm hobbying I won't have a fb account. Just not worth it. People are haters. And haters will out you in a heartbeat. And ive been outed before... it sucks.

Anytime you mix RW life and HW life you have a recipe for disaster...

FB has been mentioned so many times on these boards as a way providers RW information has surfaced - sad that it keeps coming up...

Agreed - that is stalker behavior and must be avoided at all costs...

+1. I've had some gents Facebooks pop up as "suggested friends" because I have their #'s saved in my phone, I honestly just block them. I don't need to know their personal life, nor do they need to know mine.

Indeed. People need to learn how to use their apps. The new Android allows you to block most features.

One of the best security features you can use is to access FB not from the mobile app (DELETE IT! and for smart's sake DONT HAVE IT ON YOUR HOBBY PHONE - caps for emphasis

). Use your phone's browser if you want to use FB, you will avoid all of the app permissions. Takes a second longer, but you'll avoid the mobile app, which has things that render it unusable if you want to be secure.

Some folks also recommend an app called TINFOIL to mask a lot of FB settings, I don't use it myself, but you might check it out.

BTW, I have a lot of friends in IT security, and the most vulnerable aspect of any system is the USER, and using devices for private exchanges that they are wholly ignorant and uneducated about using. There are lots of resources to familiarize yourself with basic security on the net. I'll post some good ones when I have the time.
