I have been on both sides of cancellations. A couple times I got food poisoning and didn't realize it until later in the day. It wouldn't have been nice with me in the bathroom. The other time was when I got the flu and was contagious. Either would have been bad for the provider. I have had also non shows or cancellations myself. I feel sorry for you because when you have spent money on something, you expect people to follow through or at least try to make it up to you. Good luck on the rest of your tour.
