State attorneys general who dropped Trump University fraud inquiries subsequently got Trump donations

Last summer, Donald Trump explained his past habit of making campaign contributions to Democratic Party elected officials as being part of a cynical effort to bribe them to advance his business interests. Perhaps coincidentally, it turns out that a couple of state attorneys general who considered formal fraud investigations into his fake university received Trump campaign contributions after deciding to drop them.

"As a businessman and a very substantial donor to very important people, when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do," Trump said. "As a businessman, I need that."

He later elaborated during a Republican debate, "I was a businessman, I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And you know what? When I need something from them, two years later, three years later, I call them, and they are there for me."

One example of recipients of Trump's largesse being there for him seems to relate to fraud investigations into his fake university.

That's what Jeff Horwitz and Michael Biesecker report for the Associated Press in their story on fraud probes into Trump University by state attorneys general:

As scores of students complained that Trump University was a ripoff, the Better Business Bureau in 2010 gave the school a D-minus, its second-lowest grade. State regulators also began to take notice.

The office of then-Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, opened a civil investigation of "possibly deceptive trade practices." Abbott's probe was quietly dropped in 2010 when Trump University agreed to end its operations in Texas. Trump subsequently donated $35,000 to Abbott's successful gubernatorial campaign, according to records.

Eric Schneiderman, the attorney general of New York, launched a lawsuit against Trump University in 2013 that is still pending. And Horwitz and Biesecker report that "Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi briefly considered joining with Schneiderman in a multi-state suit against Trump University."

But it ultimately didn't happen:

Three days after Bondi's spokeswoman was quoted in local media reports as saying the office was reviewing the New York lawsuit, the Donald J. Trump Foundation made a $25,000 contribution to a political fundraising committee supporting Bondi's re-election campaign. Bondi, a Republican, soon dropped her investigation, citing insufficient grounds to proceed.

Modeling campaign contributions as typically driven by this sort of quid pro quo corruption strikes me as mistaken. It's not unreasonable to expect that Republican Party attorneys general typically have an ideological commitment to lax business regulation and that businessmen whose business models involve shady practices would just sincerely want to promote the careers of people with those ideological convictions.

But Trump himself has publicly and repeatedly explained his donations as driven by a crasser transactional model, and it would certainly be interesting to see him address what was going on in these particular cases.

it only gets worse for Clinton. pig

Clinton IT aide ordered to produce immunity agreement

http://www.thehill.com/policy/nation...nity-agreement

A federal judge has ordered a former State Department IT expert to hand over the immunity agreement he has reportedly reached with the Justice Department as part of the investigation connected to Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

The order late on Friday afternoon postpones Bryan Pagliano’s deposition with conservative watchdog organization Judicial Watch until further notice. The interview had been scheduled to take place on Monday.

Pagliano’s lawyers have said that he had been planning to assert his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.

But on Friday, Judge Emmet Sullivan declared that Pagliano’s lawyers need to file a legal memorandum outlining the legal authority for him to claim plead the Fifth, “including requisite details pertaining to the scope of Mr. Pagliano's reported immunity agreement with the government.”

The order will likely shed some light on the terms of Pagliano’s agreement with the Justice Department, which was seen as a potential vulnerability for Clinton in the FBI’s probe. Law enforcement officials are exploring whether Clinton and her aides mishandled classified information through the use of her private server.

And, for the time being, the order forestalls Pagliano from having to sit before Judicial Watch lawyers and decline to answer their questions.

In a statement, Tom Fitton, the organization’s president, called the Friday afternoon order “an important step to getting more answers from Mr. Pagliano about Hillary Clinton's email system.”

Pagliano had previously pleaded the Fifth before the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

If his immunity agreement is restricted to Federal prosecution testimony, he may be smart to assert the 5th, since his deposition in a civil case would not be covered. Also, a Federal immunity agreement does not cover a state prosecution and vice versa.

Here’s The ‘HILLARY UNIVERSITY’ Scandal No One In The Media Is Talking About

Aleister Jun 3rd, 2016 8:45 pm 98 Comments

Democrats and their allies in media have been obsessing on Trump University for weeks now while completely ignoring a major scandal involving Hillary and Bill Clinton’s relationship to a for-profit college.

Breitbart reports:

Hillary University: Bill Clinton Bagged $16.46 Million from For-Profit College as State Dept. Funneled $55 Million Back

With her campaign sinking in the polls, Hillary Clinton has launched a desperate attack against Trump University to deflect attention away from her deep involvement with a controversial for-profit college that made the Clintons millions, even as the school faced serious legal scrutiny and criminal investigations.

In April 2015, Bill Clinton was forced to abruptly resign from his lucrative perch as honorary chancellor of Laureate Education, a for-profit college company. The reason for Clinton’s immediate departure: Clinton Cash revealed, and Bloomberg confirmed, that Laureate funneled Bill Clinton $16.46 million over five years while Hillary Clinton’s State Dept. pumped at least $55 million to a group run by Laureate’s founder and chairman, Douglas Becker, a man with strong ties to the Clinton Global Initiative. Laureate has donated between $1 million and $5 million (donations are reported in ranges, not exact amounts) to the Clinton Foundation. Progressive billionaire George Soros is also a Laureate financial backer.

As the Washington Post reports, “Laureate has stirred controversy throughout Latin America, where it derives two-thirds of its revenue.” During Bill Clinton’s tenure as Laureate’s chancellor, the school spent over $200 million a year on aggressive telemarketing, flashy Internet banner ads, and billboards designed to lure often unprepared students from impoverished countries to enroll in its for-profit classes. The goal: get as many students, regardless of skill level, signed up and paying tuition.

The Clintons are corrupt to the core.

They used her government position of power to enrich themselves.

Keep that in mind the next time she attacks Trump.

s judge unseals Trump University docs, BOMBSHELL revealed…
Written by Michelle Jesse, Associate Editor on May 31, 2016
US-VOTE-REPUBLICANS-TRUMP
Even as a federal judge rules against Donald Trump and today unsealed hundreds of documents related to the lawsuit against Trump University, a new bombshell in the case has just been revealed.

Turns out, one of the two law firms representing plaintiffs in this case against Trump — coincidentally, appointed by the judge overseeing the case whom Trump has (it appears rightly) accused of being “hater” and “very hostile” — have some ties to Hillary and Bill Clinton.

As in half a million dollars worth of ties.

As The American Spectator reports:

It comes to light from LawNewz that the law firm Robbins Geller appointed by Judge Gonzalo Curiel to represent a plaintiff in the Trump University class action suits has another connection to Hillary Clinton beyond a $2700 campaign contribution from firm chairman Darren Robbins. LawNewz did not mention the firm’s connection to the Trump University case. The information was apparently retrieved from a Washington Post data base with the Clinton financial filings on file. (The Post itself has not reported on this connection.)

It seems that Robbins Geller “paid the Clintons nearly half a million dollars in less than a year.” Why? Speeches of course.

That’s right. One of the law firms picked by the Judge in the Trump University case — the very Judge Donald Trump accuses by name of anti-Trump bias — awarded this firm the case after — say again after — Hillary and Bill Clinton had been paid a cool $450,000 for two speeches by the firm.

While one might have expected this connection to Trump’s presumed rival in the campaign to be called out as a potential conflict of interest, amazingly, this hasn’t happened — either in the courtroom or in the press.

And, of course, this isn’t the only connection in the case against Trump University that would raise eyebrows, at the very least, or lead one to wonder if this isn’t just a big charade — witch hunt — aimed at trashing the presumed GOP nominee.

As The American Spectator reports, several other key players in the lawsuit have some interesting ties to Democrats.

The judge Gonzalo Curiel himself, whose Hispanic heritage Trump has called out, is an Obama appointee and has been honored by “his leadership and support” to the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, whose purpose is to advance the cause of equality, empowerment and justice for, not all attorneys of any race, but specifically Latino attorneys and the Latino community in San Diego County.

We’ll let you draw your own conclusions there about the judge’s involvement with the organization who uses “La Raza” — “The Race” in its title. (Still don’t understand how it’s OK for Latinos to do it but would be a career-ending controversy for a Caucasian to be involved in such an organization.)

Meanwhile, the senior partner in the other law firm Judge Curiel selected to represent the case against Trump — Zeldes Haeggquist & Eck LLP — was a multiple-time contributor to Barack Obama and also a one-time donor in 2004 to MoveOn.org. Of course, MoveOn has this to say about Donald Trump:

For as long as Donald Trump is a presidential candidate, MoveOn members will continue to call out and nonviolently protest his racist, bigoted, misogynistic, xenophobic, and violent behavior… Trump and those who peddle hate and incite violence have no place in our politics and most certainly do not belong in the White House.
And then there’s New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who filed a $40 million law suit against Trump University in 2013 charging fraud — but only after repeated campaign solicitations to Trump family members and business associates. As American Spectator writes — and detailed here three years ago — Attorney General Schneiderman’s solicitations were along the lines of “the Mafia Don who stops by to say “ya gotta nice little business going here, ya wouldn’t want anything to happen to it.”

Oh, and by the way, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.

The Spectator sums it all up well:

What we have here is the case against Trump University being so riven with political conflicts of interest that it is clear Trump is not a defendant but the subject of a political witch hunt. A witch hunt fueled by everything from identity politics to campaign contributions.

To borrow a much used phrase from this election cycle? The case against Trump University appears to have been rigged right from the get-go.

Shocker.

Well, since the media won’t be getting word of this out, it’s up to us — and y’all!

$16 million for selling a product. Lets not forget how Hillary, just last year, took over $250,000 from UMKC for a speech that she didn't deliver. That's right, Hillary did not show up for the speech but cashed the check anyway. That is the money from hardworking parents and students trying to get an education and Hillary pretty much stole the money. She did send Chelsea to talk about her failed life as a first daughter, World Trade Center survivor, and failed TV producer. I could have found a homeless person with a better story for less than a $1000.
